ER FACILITATES GANGASAGAR PILGRIMAGE IN THE BACKDROP OF COVID-19
Kolkata, January 14, 2021:
In the backdrop of COVID-19, Eastern Railway has made elaborate arrangements for the convenience of the pilgrims of Gangasagar Mela.
For hassle free journey as well as in an effort to maintain physical distancing among the pilgrims, additional services of 12 galloping EMU special trains have been arranged up to 17 January, 2021 from Sealdah (South)/Kolkata/ Lakshmikantapur/Namkhana/Kakdwip. Moreover, 03 regular local trains in the section has been extended for the mela period.
At Sealdah/Kakdwip/Namkhana stations, special team of Railways have been deployed for guidance of the pilgrims. Publicity of timings of high & low tide are being done in circulating & outside area of the stations for the benefit of the pilgrims. Enough RPF personnel have been deployed round the clock at Sealdah, Lakshmikantapur, Kakdwip, Prinsepghat & Namkhana stations. Para-medical staff are rendering First Aid services at Kakdwip & Namkhana Railway stations to meet medical urgency of the pilgrims.
Special lighting arrangements has been done at Prinsepghat, Kakdwip & Namkhana stations. Adequate arrangement of drinking water has been made at Prinsepghat, Kakdwip & Namkhana stations. Additional toilets are being provided at Prinsepghat, Kakdwip & Namkhana stations for the convenience of the pilgrims.
Volunteers of Civil Defence, Scouts & Guides and St. John Ambulances are assisting the Railway officers at Sealdah, Kakdwip & Namkhana stations during the mela days. For close circuit monitoring, CCTVs are made available at Kakdwip, Namkhana & Sealdah South stations. Two tower wagons are kept ready at Baruipur & Lakshmikantapur stations to rush to the site with RPF in case of emergency. Regular announcements are also made in all stations for Gangasagar Mela pilgrims in three languages. There are directional signage flexes at suitable locations at Sealdah station for guiding pilgrims.
About 10,000 passengers availed train services from Kakdwip and Namkhana in two days (i.e. 12 & 13 January, 2021).
Eastern Railway urges upon all the pilgrims to maintain COVID appropriate behaviour and to wear mask, maintain physical distancing & carry sanitizer.

As a part of safety measure for the pilgrims of Gangasagar Mela-2021, it has been decided to withdraw the scheduled stoppages of all Up and Down EMU services at Kashinagar Flag station on Lakshmikantapur-Namkhana section from 12.01.2021 to 17.01.2021, as a temporary measure.
Inconvenience likely to be caused is deeply regretted.
