Third-Line between Talamanchi and Sri Venkateswarapalem Completed along with Electrification

- Part of Vijayawada – Gudur Tripling & Electrification project

The crucial rail link between Vijayawada and Gudur situated in the Grand Trunk route plays a vital role connecting the Northern and Eastern parts of the country with Southern states. Due to the continuous increase of traffic, this section has become highly saturated. In order to decongest this important rail line, third line works along with electrification have been taken up. As part of it, the section between Talamanchi and Sri Venkateswarapalem for a distance of 24.8 Kms has now been completed.

The section between Vijayawada - Gudur on SCR is very congested due to the steady increase in the movement of both Passenger and Freight train movements. To decongest this vital section, the Vijayawada – Gudur Third line project was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 288 Kms at an approximate cost of Rs 3246 crores. The work is being executed by RVNL in three packages:

1. Gudur - Bitragunta - 75 Kms

2. Bitragunta - Karavadi - 89 Kms

3. Karavadi - Krishna Canal (Vijayawada)- 124 Kms

Works have been taken up simultaneously in all the three packages. In the second package, the section between Ulavapadu – Kavali for a distance of 30 Kms has already been completed in March, 2021. Now, the section between Talamanchi – Bitragunta - Sri Venkateswarapalem for a distance of 24.8 Kms has been completed. With this, a total of 54.8 Kms of this crucial project stands completed.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway has complimented the entire Team of both Vijayawada Division and RVNL officials, who have completed the tripling and electrification works. He opined that completion of Vijayawada - Gudur tripling project eases the congestion in this oversaturated route and facilitates effectively handling of more number of trains. He stated that, the execution of third line works of the entire project in this crucial Grand trunk route are being taken up under priority, and the works in remaining stretches are progressing at a fast pace.
