36th RAISING DAY CELEBRATIONS OF RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE HELD




RPF Raising day is being observed every year o­n the 20th of September, the day on which the Railway Protection Force was elevated as an Armed Force of the Union.  RPF was established as an armed force of the union by amending the Railway Protection Force Act 20 September 1985.  This year, RPF wing  of Southern Railway celebrated the 36th Raising Day at RPF Parade Grounds, Ayanavaram Chennai yesterday (20th September, 2021).  Shri Birendra Kumar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Southern Railway presided over the function and distributed awards to meritorious RPF personnel.  A colourful parade was organized by the RPF contingent.

In commemoration of 36th Raising Day, a host of events were organized throughout the zone by the Security wing.  A Blood Donation Camp was held at Railway Hospital Perambur in which 20 RPF personnel donated blood.  Tree Plantation and Cleanliness drives were organized at Chennai, Madurai and Tiruchchirappalli divisions.  A Seminar was held o­n the role of RPF in rescue and rehabilitation of abandoned children in Madurai.  Further, various special campaigns are planned during the week from 20th to 26th September, 2021 focusing o­n creating public awareness o­n safe rail travel.

 The performance highlights of RPF department of Southern Railway during the year 2021 (upto August) are given below:

1.In 1093 instances, Rs.1,90 crore has been retrieved from left over passengers’ baggage and secured to the rightful owners.

2.In 384 occasions, Rs.61.76 worth liquor bottles were seized and 122 persons were apprehended in this connection.

3.In 84 occasions, Contraband goods weighing 803 Kg valued Rs.4.33 Crore was seized and 53 persons were held

4.Significantly, in association with Child line, 588 children (497 boys and 91 girls) were rescued

5.Under Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1966, 147 cases were detected and 268 persons were held.  Rs.10.8 lakh worth stolen property was seized.

6.During the first wave of Corona Pandemic, RPF personnel of Southern Railway escorted 115 Shramik Special trains.

7.486 RPF personnel had provided escort for 230nos.of Oxygen Special trains.

8.Seizureofunaccountedcash-In25instancesamountRs.4,97,10,530/­ along with arrest of 31persons.

9.Seizure of unaccountedgold/silver– In 16 occasions 63 Kgs., worth Rs.36.32 Cr with arrest of 26persons.

10. Seizureofunaccountedcash-In25instancesamountRs.4.97 Cr along with arrest of 31persons.

The year 2021 will be etched in the history of Southern Railway RPF with many RPF personnel bagging prestigious President’s Medal for outstanding service. o­n the occasion of Republic Day 2021, Jeevan Raksha Pathak was awarded to Sri.S.V.Jose, Constable by the Hon'ble President of India.  Further, 6 RPF personnel bagged Utkrisht Sewa Pathak, o­ne RPF personnel bagged Athi Utkrisht Sewa Pathak and 6 personnel were awarded with DG’s Insignia and Commendation Certificate during the year.

Railways to provide entry level training in industry relevant skills through 75 Railway training institutes across the country

Two Workshops in Southern Railway to impart Skill based training to youth under the RKVY scheme

To empower youth by way of providing entry level training in industry relevant skills through Railway training institutes as part of 75 years of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology launched Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana, a program under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), in Rail Bhavan today. o­n this occasion, Shri Suneet Sharma, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board and other senior officials of Railways were also present.

Speaking o­n the occasion, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “It is an auspicious day as Vishwakarma jayanti is being celebrated across the country. He also congratulated Hon’ble Prime Minister o­n his birthday. He dedicated Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana as the gift of Railways to Hon’ble Prime Minister o­n his birthday. The vision of skill development is an integral part of the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and 50 thousand youth will be trained under Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana. The aim of this initiative is to impart training skills to the youth in various trades to bring qualitative improvement. He also emphasized that training in remote areas to be conducted under Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana. He stressed that youth should enjoy the training process. ”

The training will be provided to 50000 candidates over a period of three years. Initially, the training will be provided to 1000 candidates. The training will be provided in four trades viz. Electrician, Welder, Machinist and Fitter and will comprise of initial basic training of 100 hours. Training programs in other trades will be added by zonal railways and Production units based o­n regional demands and needs assessment. Training shall be provided free of cost and participants will be selected from applications received o­nline, following a transparent mechanism o­n the basis of marks in matriculation. Candidates who are 10th passed and between 18-35 years shall be eligible to apply. Participants in the scheme shall however have no claim to seek employment in Railways o­n the basis of this training.

The program curriculum has been developed by Banaras Locomotive Works, the nodal PU for this scheme, which will also standardize assessments and maintain centralized database of participants. The scheme is being launched for 1000 participants initially and will be over and above the training provided to apprentices under the Apprentice Act 1961. A nodal website is being developed as the single source of information about programs offered, notification inviting application, lists of selected candidates, results of selection, final assessment, study material and other details. Currently, applicants may apply in response to the advertisements issued locally in the initial phase. Submission of o­nline application shall be opened soon o­n a centralized website.

Trainees shall be required to undergo a standardized assessment and will be awarded certificate in the allotted trade by the National Rail & Transportation Institute, upon conclusion of their programme. They will also be provided Toolkits relevant to their trade which would help these trainees utilize their learnings and enhance their capacity for self-employment as well as employability in various industries.

75 Railway training institutes spread across the country have been shortlisted to provide training in aforesaid trades, to cover youth from all over the country. The scheme will not o­nly improve the employability of the youth but also upgrade the skills of self employed and those who are working with contractors through re-skilling and up – skilling and contribute towards Skill India Mission.

Two Workshops of Southern Railway to impart skill based training to youth

In Southern Railway, Carriage & Wagon workshop, Perambur, Chennai and Signal & Telecommunication workshop, Podanur are the two workshops that will provide training in their Workshop Training Centers as part of this Rail Vikas Kaushal Yojana (RKVY).

In this connection, Southern Railway published notification through newspaper advertisement o­n 18-8-2021 and invited applications from eligible candidates with 15-9-2021 as closing date for submission.

 At Carriage and Wagon workshop the first batch of candidates comprising 30 candidates, 10 in Welder category and 20 in Fitter category will benefit from this programme.

At Signal and Telecommunication workshop, Podanur the first batch of candidates comprising 14 candidates, 7 in Machinist category and 7 in Electrician category will be equipped with skills imparted as part of this programme. More batches will be conducted by these two workshops in the coming days.
