Rastriya Ekta Diwas Celebrated with utmost fervor o­n North Central Railway

                Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel (31 October 1875 – 15 December 1950), popularly known as Sardar Patel, was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Independent  of India. He was a founding father of the Republic of India who played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation.

As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organized relief efforts for refugees fleeing to Punjab and Delhi from Pakistan and worked to restore peace. He led the task of forging a united India, successfully integrating into the newly independent nation those. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel persuaded 562 princely state to accede to India. His commitment to national integration in the newly independent country was total and uncompromising, earning him the sobriquet "Iron Man of India”. He is also remembered as the "patron saint of India's civil servants" for having established the modern all-India services system. He is also called the "Unifier of India". The Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue, was dedicated to him o­n 31 October 2018 which is approximately 182 metres (597 ft) in height. During Independence Day speech from Red fort o­n 15thAugust 2019, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that removal of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution has come as step towards realizing the dreams of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

                Rastriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was introduced by the Government of India in 2014.The official statement for Rastriya Ekta Divas by the Home Ministry of India cites that the National Unity Day "will provide an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country”.  Indian Railways also celebrates Rastriya Ekta Diwas with utmost fervor and in befitting manner. o­n 31stOctober, 2019, 144thbirth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Rastriya Ekta Diwas observed in Headquarters office as well as in divisions and other units falling o­n NCR’s territory.

                At North Central Railway, Headquarters office Subedarganj Additional General Manager Shri Arun Malik along with Principal Head of Departments of NCR and other officials paid their homage to Iron Man Sardar Patel by offering flowers. Afterwards, Unity pledge was administered by AGM Shri Malik to all the employees of North Central Railway present o­n the occasion which was followed by parade of Railway Protection Force personnel as a mark of respect to Sardar Patel. o­n this occasion “Run for Unity” was also organized which was actively participated by employees of NCR and their families. Unity run was flagged off by Additional General Manager Shri Arun Malik, President North Central Railway Sports Association Shri Sharad Mehta, Principal Chief Personnel Officer Shri Shriprakashand other PHODs of NCR from Rail Gaon colony Subedarganj entrance gate which and this run was concluded in railway stadium. Large number of railway employees and their family members enthusiastically participated in this run holding banners and posters of Sardar Patel in their hands. Top 03 runners were awarded in 03 different categories which were for Railway employees, Families of railway employee and a combined category for RPF personnel and NCR sportspersons. After Run for Unity an awareness program “ Nukkad Natak” o­n National unity  theme was also organized by Scouts and Guides of North Central Railway which was followed by Quiz and Essay competition based o­n National unity and life events of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. More than 100 employees from various departments of NCR HQ participated in quiz and essay competition and winners were felicitated by Sr. Dy. General Manager North Central Railway Shri Amitabh.

                Similar programs covering Unity pledge, Run for unity, quiz & essay competitions, painting etc. were also organized by all three divisions of North Central Railway i.e. Agra, Allahabad and Jhansi as well as other units under its jurisdiction.
