SCR Operates 100 Oxygen Express Services and Delivers over 7,684 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen


· Telangana state receives 4,055 MT of LMO

· Andhra Pradesh State receives 3,628 MT of LMO in SCR

South Central Railway is o­n a mission mode to serve the cause of Nation through the prompt delivery of Medical Oxygen to the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. SCR has successfully delivered 7,684.29 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to the two Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh overcoming the several challenges during the pandemic period . Till date i.e., 2nd July, 2021, While 4,055.97 MT of LMO was delivered to the State of Telangana, another 3,628.32 MT of LMO was transported to Andhra Pradesh.

In order to meet the Medical Oxygen requirement of the States in an effective manner, the Oxygen Express trains have been operated from both from the Eastern and Western parts of the Nation. A total of 100 Oxygen Express trains were run and 431 tankers have brought 7,684.29 MT of LMO to the two states. In terms of the sourcing states, 3838.69 MT was sourced from Odisha, while 1,793.10 MT was sourced from Gujarat, followed by 1,288 MT of LMO from Jharkhand, 684.5 MT from Chhattisgarh and another 80 MT from West Bengal.

With regard to the States where the Medical Oxygen was delivered by Railways, a cumulative total of 3,628.32 MT of LMO has been delivered at Guntur, Krishnapatnam Port and Tadipatri in Andhra Pradesh, while 4,055.97 MT of LMO has been delivered at Sanath Nagar Goods Complex in Telangana.

Indian Railways have been operating these trains along the Green Corridors so that the Medical Oxygen requirements of the State can be met at the fastest possible time frame and with minimum enroute detentions. Multi-disciplinary teams have also been formed to ensure that the Oxygen trains reach at the least possible time. As a result, the average time taken to transport these trains has been over 60 kmph.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR appreciated the efforts of the Officers and Staff who have planned and executed “green corridor” system for speedy delivery of the Medical Oxygen to the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He said that these Oxygen Express services are being operated with a highest priority to ensure that Medical Oxygen to the States reaches in fastest possible time schedules. He advised the SCR team to continue the focus in monitoring so as to provide hassle-free and seamless operation of these trains.

Overcoming all hurdles and finding new solutions, Indian Railways is continuing its journey of bringing relief by delivering Liquid Medical Oxygen(LMO) to various states across the country.

Oxygen Expresses crossed the milestone of 35000 MT of LMO delivery in service to the Nation.

So far, Indian Railways has delivered more than 35018 MT of LMO in more than 1990 tankers to various states across the country.

It may be noted that 477 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far and brought relief to various States.

Oxygen Expresses delivered nearly 20500 MT of LMO to the southern states of the country.

Till now, Oxygen Expresses delivered more than 3900, 4700, 4800 and 6500 MT of LMO in the state of Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu respectively

Till the time of this release, 6 loaded Oxygen Express o­n run with more than 522 MT of LMO in 28 tankers.

It is worth mentioning that Oxygen Expresses started their deliveries 67 days back o­n 24th April in Maharashtra with a load of 126 MT.

It is Indian Railways endeavour to deliver as much LMO as possible in the shortest time possible to the requesting states.

Oxygen relief by Oxygen Expresses reached out to 15 states namely Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Assam.

Till the time of this release, 614 MT of Oxygen has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 3797 MT in Uttar Pradesh, 656 MT in Madhya Pradesh, 5863 MT in Delhi, 2354 MT in Haryana, 98 MT in Rajasthan, 4697 MT in Karnataka, 320 MT in Uttarakhand, 6551 MT in Tamil Nadu, 4824 MT in

Till now Oxygen Expresses offloaded LMO in around 39 cities/towns in 15 states across the country namely Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Bareilly, Gorakhpur & Agra in Uttar Pradesh, Sagar, Jabalpur, Katni & Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Mumbai & Solapur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad in Telangana, Faridabad & Gurugram in Haryana, Tuglakabad, Delhi Cantt & Okhla in Delhi, Kota & Kanakpara in Rajasthan, Bengaluru in Karnataka, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Nellore, Guntur, Tadipatri & Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Ernakulam in Kerala, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Tuticorin, Coimbatore & Madurai in Tamil Nadu, Bhatinda & Phillaur in Punjab, Kamrup in Assam and Ranchi in Jharkhand.

Indian Railways has mapped different routes with Oxygen supply locations and keeps itself ready with any emerging need of the States. States provide tankers to the Indian Railways for bringing LMO.

Criss crossing the country, Indian Railways is picking up oxygen from places like Hapa , Baroda, Mundra in the West and Rourkela, Durgapur, Tatanagar, Angul in the East and then delivering it to States of Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh & Assam in complex operational route planning scenarios.

In order to ensure that Oxygen relief reaches in the fastest time possible, Railways is creating new standards and unprecedented benchmarks in running of Oxygen Express Freight Trains. The average speed of these critical Freight trains is way above 55 in most cases over long distances. Running o­n high priority Green Corridor, with a highest sense of urgency, operational teams of various zones are working round the clock in most challenging circumstances to ensure that Oxygen reaches in fastest possible time frame. Technical stoppages have been reduced to 1 minute for crew changes over different sections.

Tracks are kept open and high alertness is maintained to ensure that Oxygen Express keeps zipping through.

All this is done in a manner that speed of other Freight Operation doesn't get reduced as well.

Running of new Oxygen is a very dynamic exercise and figures keep getting updated all the time. More loaded Oxygen Expresses are expected to start their journeys later in the night.
