MORE TIMETABLED PARCEL TRAINS BY SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY IN THE WAKE OF COVID-19

 

In a major boost to the supply chain across the country, Indian Railway has introduced unhindered services of Time Table Parcel Trains for nationwide transportation of essential commodities and other goods.This is expected to boost the availability of vital goods required for ordinary citizens, industry and agriculture.This is the first time that Time Tabled scheduled for such a large number of parcel trains are being run wherein local industries, e-commerce companies, interested groups, individuals and prospective loaders can book parcels.

 

On South Western Railway timetabled parcel express trains is being run to various destinations with bookings from point to point in order to ensure fast and convenient transportation of essential commodities in the wake of national lock down due to COVID-19 threat.

 

Now it is decided to operate four daily trips of Train No.00615 / 00616 Yesvantpur – Howrah – Yesvantpur Daily Parcel Express Special as detailed below: -

 

Train No.00615 Yesvantpur – Howrah Daily Parcel Special will depart from Yesvantpur at 12.00 hrs o­n 09.04.2020, 10.04.2020, 11.04.2020 and 12.04.2020 to reach Howrah at 02.30 hrs o­n 11.04.2020, 12.04.2020, 13.04.2020 and 14.04.2020, respectively.

 

In the return direction, Train No.00616 Howrah – Yesvantpur Daily Parcel Special departs from Howrah at 11.00 hrs o­n 11.04.2020, 12,04.2020, 13.04.2020 and 14.04.2020 to reach Yesvantpur at 23.00 hrs o­n the next days.

 

The trains will have commercial stoppages at Jolarpettai, Chennai, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Khurda Road, Bubhaneswar, Balasore, Kharagpur, Panskura and Mecheda In both directions. Parcels can be booked from all these stations.

 

The Parcel trains will have a composition of 5 parcel vans and 2 sitting-cum-luggage vans.

 

Train Nos.00603 Yesvantpur – Howrah Parcel Express Special of 11.04.2020 and 00604Howra – Yesvantpur Parcel Express Special of 13.04.2020 are cancelled Consequent to the operation of above Parcel Special.

 

The railway has already notified the operation of the following train services for transport of essential commodities: -

 

Yesvantpur - H Nizamuddin – Yesvantpur train will leave Yesvantpur o­n 13th at 19.00 hrs and arrive H Nizamuddin o­n 15th at 10.30 hrs.On the return trip the train will leave H Nizamuddin o­n 15th at 21.15 hrs and reach Yesvantpur o­n 17th at 14.00 hrs.Stoppages are provided at Raichur, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Manmad, Bhusaval, Itarsi, Bhopal, Jhansi, Agra Cant. & Mathura Jn Railway Stations.

 

 

Yesvantpur - Gorakhpur – Yesvantpur train will leave Yesvantpur o­n 12th at 13.00 hrs and arrive at Gorakhpur o­n 14th at 23.00 hrs. o­n the return trip the train will leave Gorakhpur o­n 15th at 13.00 hrs and reach Yesvantpur o­n 17th at 21.45 hrs. Stoppages will be available at Chennai Central, Vijayawada, Sirpur Kagaznagar, Balharshah,Nagpur, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Satna, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Mughalsarai) & Patna Jn. Railway Stations.

SWR is ensuring time-tabled parcel trains to keep supply chains of essential commodities, milk, fruits, vegetables and other edibles intact in close coordination with State Governments to ensure unhindered services.During the lockdown period South Western Railway has moved three time tabled trains to Howrah o­ne each to Guwahati, Delhi and Patna/Goarkhpur.210 Tonnes of materials containing Hatching Eggs, Medicines, Fruits & Vegetables to various destinations like Howrah, Bhubaneswar, Ghorakhpur, Patna, Jabalpur, Delhi & Guwahati from Bengaluru.So far SWR has run In view of good patronage and demand for parcel service to Howrah it is now planned to run this service to daily basis.

WESTERN RAILWAY’S PARCEL EXPRESS TRAINS MAKES 5 MORE TRIPS TO VARIOUS DESTINATIONS o­n 10th APRIL TO ENSURE

SUPPLY OF ESSENTIALS


To fulfill the commitment towards the nation and the people, Western Railway is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that essential commodities are made available across the nation during the time of lockdown. WR is not o­nly transporting essential commodities, but also medical supplies. WR is doing in its optimum and has scheduled 11 special timetabled Parcel Express trains during lockdown period to various parts of the country, which are highest amongst all zonal railways. Out of these, 5 trips of several Parcel Express trains departed o­n10thApril, 2020, from different stations of WR to various destinations across the country. A milk van also departed from Palanpur to Hind Terminal.

According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, o­n 10thApril, 2020, 5 more trips of parcel special trains left from various stations of WR.One parcel express train departed Bandra Terminus at 21.30 hrs to reach Okha next day at 15.00 hrs. o­ne train left from Bhuj at 14.45 hrs, to arrive Dadar at 5.45 hrs the next day.The third parcel express train left Mumbai Central at 19.45 hrs to reach Firozpur at 02.30 hrs o­n 12th April, 2020. o­ne left from Surat at 10.00 hrs to reach Bhagalpur at 18.30 hrs the next day. The fifth Parcel express departed from Ahmedabad at 16.00 hrs to reach Guwahati o­n 12th April, 2020 at 13.00 hrs.WR has scheduled the run of 11 parcel express trains, with total 54 trips. Out of these, 18 trips have already been made.

Shri Bhakar stated that, during the lockdown period from 22nd March to 9th April, 2020, total 1079 rakes have been used to supply essential commodities amounting to 2.31 million tonnes. 2503 freight trains were interchanged with other railways, including 1284 trains handed over and 1219 trains taken over at different interchange points. 26 Millennium Parcel rakes of Parcel Vans/Railway Milk Tankers (RMTs) have been sent to different parts of the country to cope the demands of essential items such as milk powder, liquid milk and other general consumer goods.

He stated that the total losses over Western Railway up to 9thApril, 2020, o­n account of lockdown have been Rs 335.72 Cr (inclusive of suburban+ non-suburban). Inspite of this loss, Western Railway has refunded Rs. 137.11 crore resulting cancellation of tickets till now. In Mumbai Division itself, refund of Rs. 64.74 crore has been made for cancellation of tickets. In all 21.56 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received refund accordingly. It is worth mentioning that all precautions are being taken during the time of loading/unloading of goods. All staff is being provided with suitable safety equipments, so as not to be a hazard for others in any way. It is a remarkable achievement that upto 9thApril, 2020 almost 80,000 masks and about 4000 liters of sanitizers were made inhouse at various divisions and workshops of WR during lockdown period.
