Ranchi,04th June, 2015:

Shri Radhey Shyam, GM/SER inspected Ranchi station and interacted with passengers at random waiting for boarding trains at Ranchi station o­n date (04.05.2015).Shri Deepak Kashyap, DRM/SER/RNC accompanied the General Manager along with other Officers at Ranchi.This inspection has been made not o­nly to get the feedback of the passengers but also to see that the various facilities and passenger amenities of Ranchi Station have reached the passengers andSER’s efforts to give further fillip to all round up gradation of passenger amenities during this ‘passengers and customer Fortnight, Railyatri/ Upbhokta Pakhwada’.

General Manager interacted with the passengers who were waiting at Ranchi station for boarding trains for different directions viz. New Delhi, Varanasi, Allahabad, Patna, Lucknow & major cities of South India.The passengers shared their experiences of train journey with General Manager. Passengers complemented overall SER’s concerted efforts to the benefits of the passengers and rail users.Shri Radhey Shyam inspected Computerized Reservation Centre, PRS-cum-UTS, Felicitation Counter, Booking offices, Catering units, FOB, Retiring Rooms, Ticket counters, Station surface area etc. to take care of passengers requirement.GM also inspected the increased platform shelters, direct access to the city from platform, parking space, signage, and setting up of LED display board at Station which disseminates the detail of arrival and departure timings of trains.In pursuit of providing amenities to the passengers Sri Radhey Shyam said to the passenger that SER has achieved significant milestones. Escalator has been installed at Ranchi Station to ease the differently able persons, senior citizens and other passengers as an improvement of passenger amenity.

In order to enhance passenger convenience cleanliness of trains and stations is being accorded a high priority o­n SER.There has been a strong focus in providing our customers with highest standard of cleanliness both at station and in trains. Ranchi and other more important stations of Ranchi division are provided with CC TVs to keep under surveillance of passengers to avoid any untoward incidents.

Earlier, GM inspected the newly constructed Astroturf Hockey ground at Hatia and Mechanized Laundry at Ranchi which will be inaugurated shortly.Later, GM held a press conference at VIP’s lounge at Ranchi Station and conveyed the Reporters & Media Representatives of Ranchi about the various developmental activities especially in passenger’s facilities and amenities provided with the Ranchi Division.

Shri E. Narsing Rao, Technitian, receives Cash Awards from GM SCR for his detection of hot axle in a train and avoided possible untoward incident.

        Shri P.K.Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway held a high level Safety Review Meeting through Video Conference with the Divisional Railway Managers (DRM’s) of all the 6 Divisions o­n SCR viz., Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded Divisions & Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs) today i.e., 28th April, 2015 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.

Shri P.K. Srivastava appreciated the entire team of officers and staff involved in train operations for ensuring reduction in yard derailments, weld failures, rail breakage failures etc. o­n the Zone. He cautioned that there shall be no complacency in the aspect of rail safety and stated that there would be “Zero Tolerance” o­n the matter. The General Manager stated that:-


ØThe Safety schedules shall strictly be maintained so as to keep the rail assets including rolling stock in fine fettle.

ØThe incidents of fire in stabled coaches shall be stopped by ensuring that a stabled coach is kept in locked condition so as to prevent trespassers and a probable mishap. GM directed the DRMs to initiate measures in this direction.

ØDuring the summer season all precautions should be taken in the movement of Goods Trains. Particularly the coal loaded wagons should be sprinkled with water before its departure from the yard so as to prevent fire incidents.

ØEnsure, tarpaulins are fitted properly o­n the open wagons. Loosely fitted tarpaulins may entangle with Over Head Equipment and may hamper the train movements.

ØHe has directed DRM’s to closely monitor the progress of work o­n elimination of the Unmanned Railway Level Crossings (UMLCs) and all efforts shall be put to achieve the set targets by the end of March, 2017.

ØCounselling of Safety Category staff is of paramount importance and hence Officers / Supervisors shall take up the same in right earnest.  Road Safety Counsellors should be made available at all the UMLCs.

Ø He has directed DRM’s to conduct Safety Seminars to sensitize the Staff involved in Train Operations. Outdoor practical field training should be given to all the newly recruited/ transferred staff of ASMs and Points Men o­n priority.

ØFurther he had stated that Safety Drives shall be taken up with all seriousness with focus o­n critical aspects as exchange of signals, movement of trains in yards, adequate rest to crew before booking for duties etc.

ØHe cautioned that negligence or any violation of safety norms during the course of discharging duties by staff shall be viewed very seriously and action will be initiated against them for any dereliction.

            Earlier, Shri P.K. Srivastava presented a cash award to a Technician of Secunderabad Division, Shri E. Narsing Rao, for his devotion to duty in ensuring safety of train movement. The Senior Technician while conducting rolling in examination at Secunderabad Railway Station detected a Hot Axle in the Train No. 12026 Pune – Secunderabad Shatabdi Express. He immediately acted upon to rectify the defect, thereby helped averting  the unsafe condition for the train . 

            The DRM’s appraised the General Manager o­n the details pertaining to safety o­n their respective Divisions, measures being undertaken o­n the Safety matters, follow up action etc. Shri S.P Sahu, Chief Safety Officer, SCR made a Power Point Presentation o­n Safety. Shri J.N.Jha, Chief Operations Manager was amongst the Officials present.
