WR Press Release No. 2021/07 Mumbai, 26th July, 2021 WESTERN RAILWAY CROSSED GOODS LOADING OF 25 MILLION TONNES IN THE CURRENT FINANCIAL YEAR Mumbai Division’s BDU Taps New Commodity of Sugar Transported From Nandurbar Goods Shed Photo Caption : Views of loading of various commodities in process over Western Railway. Western Railway's goods & parcel special trains have been continuously traversing across the country to keep the supply of essential commodities moving. In continuation to this, in the current financial year, WR has loaded goods weighing 26.28 Million Tonnes upto 25th July, 2021, as compared to 20.42 Million Tonnes in the same period in previous financial year. This is an increase of more than 28 percent, which is extremely commendable. It is also pertinent to mention that WR's Mumbai Division’s Business Development Unit has tapped new commodity of Sugar to be transported from Nandurbar Goods Shed. These achievements have been made possible due to the able guidance, motivation & continuous monitoring by Shri Alok Kansal - General Manager of Western Railway. According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, from 1st April, 2021 to 25th July, 2021, Western Railway has transported commodities weighing approx. 90 thousand tonnes through its 240 parcel special trains, which included agricultural produce, medicines, medical equipment, fish, milk etc. The revenue generated through this transportation, has been approx Rs. 30.69 crore. 58 Milk Special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of above 40 thousand tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons. Similarly, 70 COVID-19 special parcel trains with a load of approx. 12000 tonnes were also run to transport essential commodities. In addition to this, 42 indented rakes carrying approx. 20500 tonnes were also run with 100% utilization. To help the farmers find new markets for their produce and also for its economical and fast transportation, 70 Kisan Rails with load of more than 17000 tonnes have also been run during this period from various divisions. During the period from 1st April to 25th July, 2021 total 94073 rakes of goods trains have been run by WR and carried 26.28 million tonnes of essential commodities. 25410 freight trains were interchanged with other zonal railways, in which 12717 trains were handed over and 12693 trains were taken over at different interchange points. Shri Thakur further added that with the consistent marketing effort of Mumbai Central BDU team, new traffic was loaded from Nandurbar Goods shed recently to southern parts of the country. Business Development Units (BDUs) are in constant contact with the existing and probable freight customers to encourage them to transport their goods through railways with the incentives introduced by the Railway Board for quick, reliable, economical & bulk transportation of their goods. **********************
