GM/ER INAUGURATED AUTOMATIC COACH WASHING PLANT AT ER’S TIKIAPARA COACHING DEPOT Kolkata, February 11, 2022 Shri Arun Arora, GM/ER inaugurated Automatic Coach Washing Plant at Tikiapara Coaching Depot, Eastern Railway today (11.2.2022). The Automatic Coach Washing Plant is a multistage external cleaning system for coaches in rakes, using detergent solution, high pressure water jet and vertical rotating brushes. In addition, it has Effluent Treatment system and water softening plants for use of soft water for external washing. The cost of the plant is amounting to ₹1.9 crore (approx.). Major benefits of the installation of coach washing plant are multi-faceted. For one rake of 24 coaches Mechanized Automated Coach Washing takes only 15-20 minutes for exterior washing of entire rake. This plant is capable for external washing of 300 coaches round the clock. This automatic system will need only one people per shift to operate the machine and wash the train at a speed of 5-8 kilometres per hour. The plant is equipped with sensor based facility for start of washing after passing of loco from entry at platform to coaching yard. The washing system will use only 20% of the fresh water for each train while the remaining 80% of the water which will be used would be recycled water. Controlled application of detergent leads to consistent cleaning causes no damage to exterior colour and optimum use of materials, and thus ensuring improved quality of exterior washing without damage to the paint or compromising on the aesthetic look of coaches. All the Principal Heads of Departments of Eastern Railway Headquarters & section branch officers of Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division, Divisional Railway Manager/Howrah and Senior Branch Officers of ER’s Howrah Division accompanies GM in his inauguration programme of automatic coach washing plant of Tikiapara Coaching Depot of Eastern Railway.
