Southern Railway observed the International Day of Yoga by conducting various programmes all over the Railway. The International Yoga Day 2021 is celebrated all over the Railways with the thematic message of #Be with Yoga. Be at Home.

On 18th June 2021, As a preparatory exercise for International Yoga Day, an Orientation Course o­n “Common Yoga Protocol” was organized through virtual means for all the Officers and Staff of Headquarters. Shri R.Balan, Yoga Instructor and Power Controller/Headquarters/Chennai explained the importance of Yoga and benefits of Asanas in detail. 

On 19th June 2021, a special programme was organized to equip the employees to cope up with the challenges posed by Covid 19 Pandemic through a Webinar by Isha Yoga Foundation. The virtual webinar o­n “Equip Yourself for the Covid -19 Era” was organized for Railway employees which gave Insights o­n the Physical and Mental Challenges and explained the Practices to boost immunity and improve respiratory functions with demonstrations of Simha Kriya and Isha Kriya, followed by Guided Meditation.

Today, o­n International Yoga Day, a Live o­nline Demonstration o­n ”Common Yoga Protocol” with special focus o­n Yogasanas, Yogic Exercises, Asanas and Meditation has been performed by a team of employees through virtual means. Shri John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway, Shri B.G.Mallya, Addl General Manager, Southern Railway, and All Principal Heads of the Departments of Southern Railway as well as Officers and Staff of Southern Railway participated in the programme through virtual means.

All the six Divisions of Southern Railway, namely, Chennai, Salem, Tiruchchirappalli, Madurai, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram also conducted programmes o­n Yoga through virtual means to inculcate and educate and spread awareness of Yoga o­n International Yoga Day through various o­nline and offline programmes at Stations, Workshops, and Railway Institutes and Railway Schools.

Yoga camps and demonstrations were organized in Workshops and in many Railway Stations across Southern Railway. In the Signal & Telecommunication Workshop, Podanur, a Yoga Session was organized both offline and o­nline. In the running rooms of Kollam and Trivandrum, large number of Loco pilots turned up for the offline Yoga sessions. At Chennai Egmore Railway Station, a large group of employees assembled to perform Yogic exercises along with volunteers of Southern Railway State Bharath Scouts and Guides.

Similar programmes were organized at Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Chengalpattu, Tiruchchirappalli, Villuppuram, Salem and Katpadi Railway Stations where volunteers from the general public as well as scouts and guides joined with the Railway employees in doing the Yoga exercises.

In Nagercoil Railway Institute, Madurai Railway Kalyana Mandapam, Chengalpattu RPF Office and in Thiruvananthapuram Railway Institute and in Perambur Railway Offices of the workshop and Scouts and Guides, Volunteers joined the Railway Staff and their families in doing Yoga exercises duly maintaining social distance.

In Katpadi District Scouts Camp Office, Scouts Groups organized both o­nline and Offline demonstrations and Yoga Classes for volunteers. In Erode, a special Yoga session was organized for the trainees in the Multi Disciplinary Divisional Training Institute.

At the Chennai Egmore, Tambaram, and Nungambakkam health Units Special Yoga Sessions were organized for the Health and Sanitary workers.

At the RPF Grounds, Chennai, Railway Protection Personnel assembled in large gathering duly following social distance norms and participated in a special Yoga demonstration and exercise. In Golden Rock Workshop, employees participated in both o­nline and offline Yoga sessions.

Apart from these, All the Railway Schools over Southern Railway conducted o­nline and Offline Yoga Sessions. At Palakkad Railway school, Officers and Staff joined the School Children for the Yoga session.At Erode, Arakkonam, Golden Rock and Podanur, Railway Schools conducted various programmes including Quiz and Essay competitions along with the Yoga Demonstrations and Exercises. Perambur Mixed Higher Secondary School conducted o­nline Yoga sessions for both the teachers and the students.

Southern Railway delivers nearly 6000 MT of LMO for Tamil Nadu & Kerala through 77 Oxygen Express trains and 322 Containers/tankers

Over 5500 MT of LMO in 295 containers/tankers delivered for Tamil Nadu through 73 Oxygen Express trains

513.72 MT of LMO in 27 containers/tankers delivered for Kerala through 4 Oxygen Express trains

55 Empty rakes from Tamil Nadu & 4 Empty rakes from Kerala dispatched for LMO refill

As o­n date Southern Railway has delivered a total of 5947.86 MT of LMO for Tamil Nadu and Kerala through 77 Oxygen Express trains since 14th May 2021 when the first loaded oxygen express arrived.

Delivery of LMO for Tamil Nadu crosses 5500 MT.  73 Oxygen Express trains deliver  5518.03 MT of LMO for Tamil Nadu .

69th Oxygen Express loaded at Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) for Chennai Harbour with 6 containers carrying 108.4 MT of  LMO arrived at the destination at 19:20 hours of 14-06-2021.    

70th Oxygen Express loaded at Rourkela (Odisha) for Inland Container Depot, Tondiarpet with 6 containers carrying 114.98 MT of  LMO arrived at the destination at 22:40 hours of 14-06-2021.

71st Oxygen Express loaded at Container Corporation Siding at Mandir Hasaud, near Raipur (Chattisgarh) for  Inland Container Depot, Tondiarpet with 4 containers carrying 80 MT of  LMO arrived at the destination at 06:20 hours of 15-06-2021.

72nd Oxygen Express loaded at Rourkela (Odisha) for Irugur Container Siding (near Coimbatore) with 4 containers carrying 77.78 MT of LMO arrived at the destination at 07:25 hours of 15-6-2021.

73rd Oxygen Express loaded at Jindal Steel Siding, Dolvi, Maharastra for Chennai Harbour with 4 tankers carrying 83.89 MT of LMO arrived at the destination at 15.10 hours of 15-06-2021.

Station wise break-up of Cumulative quantity of LMO delivered:

As of date, Inland Container Depot, Tondiarpet handled 32 loaded Oxygen Express rakes carrying 2364.94 MT of LMO. Chennai Harbour handled sixteen rakes delivering 1481.76 MT of LMO.

Madukkarai near Coimbatore handled seven Oxygen Express carrying a total of 333.02 MT of LMO.

Tiruchchirappalli Goods Yard (368.57 MT) and Kudalnagar (276.94 MT) received four rakes each.

Irugur Siding (240.11 MT) handled three rakes while two rakes each were handled at Milavattan (143.96 MT) and) and Salem Container Depot (167.52 MT).One rake each was delivered to Tondiarpet Goods Yard (30.5MT), Tiruvallur (31.4 MT) and Vadipatti (79.31 MT).

As for further Oxygen Express trains, two loaded rakes for Tamil Nadu, with 154.56 MT of LMO, are in transit.

Containers/tankers delivered & Empty rakes run

As of date, 322 containers/tankers carrying LMO were delivered of which 295 containers/tankers were delivered to various Tamil Nadu destinations. 27 containers/tankers delivered for Kerala were offloaded at Vallarpadam Container Terminal.

In the o­ngoing operation of running Oxygen Express trains, States provide support through dispatch of empty containers/tankers for refill.  Southern Railway has dispatched 59 such rakes carrying empty containers/tankers, 55 rakes from Tamil Nadu and 4 from Kerala.

Oxygen Express for Kerala

So far, four oxygen Express trains delivered 513.72 MT of Oxygen to Kerala.  All the three rakes were offloaded at Vallarpadam Container Terminal, Kochi. The fourth rake with 7 containers carrying 133.72 MT of LMO arrived at Vallarpadam o­n 01-06-2021.
