SOUTHERN RAILWAY OBSERVES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2022

Demonstration of Common Yoga Protocol at Southern Railway Headquarters, Divisions, Workshops & Field Units

Focused on the holistic health and wellbeing of employees, Southern Railway observes Yoga Day every year since its inception in 2015. This year, the 8th edition of International Yoga Day is observed in India and across the world guided by the theme, ‘Yoga for Humanity’.  The theme aptly portrays how Yoga served humanity in alleviating the sufferings during the COVID pandemic.

Today, 21st June 2022, the Officers and Staff of Southern Railway Headquarters, Chennai Division, Workshops and other field units enthusiastically came together to demonstrate the set of yogasanas listed under Common Yoga Protocol by the Ministry of Ayush. Earlier, exhaustive arrangements were made all over the Railway for the live streaming of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s mass Yoga demonstration at Mysuru Palace Grounds and Hon’ble Railway Minister’s mass Yoga demonstration from Sun Temple at Konark, Odisha.

Led by Shri B.G.Mallya, General Manager, Southern Railway and guided by eminent yoga instructors, the Principal Heads of Departments, DRM/Chennai, other officers and staff of Southern Railway Headquarters and Chennai Division performed various asanas as per Common Yoga Protocol at Perambur Rail Kalayana Mandapam, Chennai. The officers and staff also witnessed the live streaming of the speech of Hon’ble PM and Hon’ble Railway Minister.  Speaking to the media at the event, Shri B.G.Mallya stated that Yoga is important for sound physical and mental wellbeing and persuaded the employees to adopt the practice of yoga on a daily basis for sustainable health.

Yoga demonstration marking the International Day of Yoga was also organized in other five divisions and field units of Southern Railway.

Southern Railway had also observed a mass yoga session marking the Countdown to Yoga Day on the 15th of June, 2022 at Southern Railway Headquarters in Chennai.

Yoga Day Celebrations at National Level

The Prime Minister’s Yoga programme at Mysuru is also part of the novel programme ‘Guardian Yoga Ring’ which is a collaborative exercise between 79 countries and United Nations organisations along with Indian Missions abroad to illustrate Yoga's unifying power that surpasses National boundaries.  Integrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with celebrations of 8th IDY, Mass Yoga demonstrations were organised at 75 iconic locations across the country under the leadership of 75 Union Ministers, along with the Yoga Demonstration by the Prime Minister at Mysuru. The Yoga demonstrations were also held by various educational, social, political, cultural, religious, corporate and other civil society organisations.
