- Cement loading commences from three new industries for the first time in the current Financial Year Giving a major thrust towards, “Mission Hungry For Cargo”, South Central Railway has been giving special attention towards attracting new customers towards rail transportation, while strengthening its existing Freight Basket. In this direction, Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway has given special focus on expanding its freight customers to include new cement players in the industry. Cement is one of the major commodities being transported by the Division. Last year, the Division had transported 22.364 MTs of cement. There are 19 siding points from where Cement is directly loaded from the plant premises. To further expand this segment, the Business development Unit (BDU) of the Division has been making tireless efforts to attract new cement customers towards railways. Accordingly, the Division has identified 11 cement plants without railway siding and where the transportation of their products was happening only through roadways. To attract these customers also towards Railways, the BDU team has been conducting regular meetings, making them aware of the benefits of transportation by Railways and understanding the needs of the customer. These efforts have started to yield rich dividends with the Division succeeding in attracting three new cement industries in the current financial year to transport their products by Railways. These include: M/s Dalmia from Gadchandur, M/s MP Birla, Gadchandur and M/s Nagarjuna Cements from Mattampalle. Previously, the division succeeded in attracting M/s KCP Cements to commence loading from Jagayyapeta station. The latest to transport their cement by Railways has been M/S Nagarjuna Cements from Mattampalle. 1,368 Tonnes cement was loaded in 21 wagons and transported to Jalna Goods shed in Maharashtra. To facilitate the transportation by railways, the Division has developed the associated required infrastructure at these stations / goods shed in the shortest possible time, as these do not have exclusive railway sidings. Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manger (In-charge), SCR complimented the team of Officers and Staff of Secunderabad Division – specially the BDU team – for initiating this new stream of traffic for SCR. He stressed the need of improvement of freight segment to contribute more for operation “Mission Hungry for Cargo” from the Zone. He advised the officials to particularly make the freight customers aware of how loading by Railways is not only economically beneficial to them, but also beneficial in terms of safety, speed and being environment-friendly.
