Falaknuma – Umdanagar Doubling with Electrification Commissioned



- Part of MMTS Phase - II Project

- With this, 5 out of 7 phases of execution of MMTS Phase-II project have been completed and commissioned

The South Central Railway has taken o­ne more important step towards the progression of MMTS Phase-II project by completing and commissioning Double Line with Electrification between Falaknuma - Umdanagar. The new double line has been constructed between Falaknuma – Umdanagar for a distance of 13.98 Kms. In addition to the track doubling and electrification, associated infrastructural developments have also been carried out.

Multi Modal Transport Service (MMTS) is o­ne of the cheapest and economical modes of suburban transport in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The network extends between Falaknuma - Secunderabad - Hyderabad - Lingampalli – Ramachandrapuram. In the first phase, MMTS Phase-I network extended to a distance of 42 kms. With a view to expand the suburban services, MMTS Phase- II project has been proposed for a distance of 84 kms, executing different works including:

Ø New line between Telapur - Ramachandrapuram o­n Western part of City.

Ø Electrification between Secunderabad - Bolarum.

Ø Double line with Electrification between Bolarum – Medchal o­n Northern side of City.

Ø Quadrupling (4 lines) with electrification and Automatic signalling (in place of existing double line) between Ghatkesar - Moula Ali to ease congestion and enabling for running more trains.

Ø Doubling with electrification between Falaknuma - Umdanagar o­n Southern part of city.

Ø Doubling & Electrification between Moulali - Malkajgiri - Sitaphalmandi

Ø Doubling with electrification between Moula Ali - Sanathnagar along with construction of 5 new stations in the section for providing East-west connectivity by-passing Secunderabad station.

Works for the same are being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in a phased manner. Already, new rail line works between Telapur – Ramachandrapuram, electrification between Secunderabad - Bolarum, electrification and Doubling between Bolarum – Medchal and Quadrupling between Moula Ali – Ghatkesar have been completed and commissioned. Now, with the completion of construction of Double line along with electrification between Falaknuma – Umdanagar, MMTS Phase- II project has reached final stage of completion.

Falaknuma – Umdanagar is important rail line connecting Secunderabad, Kacheguda with Kurnool city, Guntakal, Bengaluru and down south. Many Passenger train services including AP & Karnataka Sampark Kranthi trains ply through this route. Construction of double line with electrification helps in easing the congestion of this important section and improves the operational efficiency in dealing with all types of trains (suburban, passenger and Express). It facilitates operation of more number of freight trains as well.

The four stations falling in the Falaknuma – Umdanagar section viz., Falaknuma, NPA Shivarampally, Budvel and Umdanagar have been provided with all required passenger amenities including New Station Buildings, High Level Platforms, Foot over Bridges, wide circulating area and parking facilities. 24 Bridges including major & bridges have been constructed in the section. Out of 6 LC Gates falling in the section o­ne Road under Bridge has been constructed and remaining 5 LC gates have been provided with Signal interlocking.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR has complimented the Railway Officials, RVNL authorities o­n completion and commissioning of double line between Falaknuma – Umdanagar. He opined that commissioning of this new line will ease the congestion enabling smooth and punctual operation of train services in both Passenger and freight segment.

Highlights of Railway Budget 2021-22 GM, SCR holds Virtual Press Conference today




-Highest ever allocation to SCR in budget 2021-22 -Budget Allocation for both Telugu States (TS & AP) more than double in 2021-22 over average of 2014-20

The General Budget 2021-22, which includes the Railways, was presented o­n the floor of the Parliament o­n 01st February, 2021. The Pink book, a compendium containing all the details about the infrastructure works, demands for grants and comprehensive details of budgetary allocations for carrying out various works in Railways, has been tabled in the Parliament. Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway held a Press Meet today i.e., 04th February, 2021 to highlight the Budgetary allocations 2021-22 for South Central Railway, the details of which are as below:-

1) National Rail Plan to create a future ready Railways system by 2030 with a strategy of bringing down logistic cost for the Industry to enable “make in India”.

2) Indian Railways to construct additional dedicated freight corridors namely East Coast Corridor from Kharagpur to Vijayawada, East West corridor from Bhusaval to Khargpur to Daunkuni and North South Corridor from Itarsi to Vijayawada.

3) 100% electrification of all the Broad-Gauge Railway lines by December 2023.

4) Provision of indigenously developed automatic Train Protection system in the High-Density Networks and High-Utilization Networks to eliminate train collisions due to human error.

5) Highest ever total Plan capex of Rs. 2,15,058 Crores this year with Rs.7,500 Crores from internal resources, Rs. 1,00,258 Crores from extra budgetary resources and Rs. 1,07,100 Crores coming from capital expenditure.

Highlights of Railway Budget pertaining to South Central Railway

Ø The zone has got a substantial budgetary allocation for the year 2021-22.

Ø Towards important infrastructure works, SCR has been sanctioned a staggering amount of Rs. 7,222 Crore for the year 2021-22 compared to Rs. 7,024 Crore for the year 2020-21. These include:

· For Doubling, Third Line and Bypass line works, the total budgetary grant including all is Rs 4,238 Crore.

· For New lines, the total budgetary grant including Capital, Deposit, Extra Budgetary Resources etc is Rs 2,195 Crore.

· For electrification works, the total budgetary grant is Rs. 617 Crore.

· For Traffic facilities, the total budgetary grant is Rs 173 Crore.

The budget allocations for some of the important Safety related works during 2021-22 include –

Ø Rs 672 Crores for Road Safety Works (Level Crossings, Bridges and ROB/RUB)

Ø Rs. 374 Crores for construction of road over/under bridges o­n golden quadrilateral/diagonal routes

Ø Rs 862 Crores for Track Renewal works

Ø Rs. 60 Crores for implementation of Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) o­n Bidar-Parli Vaijnath-Parbhani and Manmad-Nanded-Secunderabad-Dhone-Guntakal sections.

The Budgetary Allocations for some of the important o­ngoing projects over SCR & their current status are as follows:

Ø Rs. 1,144.4 Crore allotted for Nadikudi–Srikalahasti new line project. The project was sanctioned in the year 2011-12 for a distance of 309 Kms with an sanctioned cost of Rs.2,289 Crore. 50% of the project cost is to be borne by the Govt. of AP, while giving land free of cost. The section between New Piduguralla to Savalyapuram for a distance of 46 kms is completed. Works are progressing well in remaining sections.

Ø Rs. 325 Crore allotted for Manoharabad–Kothapalli new line project. The project was sanctioned in the year 2006-07 for a distance of 151 Kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 1160 Crore. This is a cost sharing project with Govt. of Telangana. Accordingly, 1/3rd cost will be shared by Govt of Telangana and land will be given by them at free of cost. The first phase of the project from Manoharabad – Gajwel for a distance of 32 kms is completed. Balance works are in fast progress.

Ø Rs. 267 Crore allotted for Bhadrachalam – Sattupalli new line project. The project was sanctioned in the year 2010-11 for a distance of 54 Kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs 928 Crore. The project has been taken up jointly by Railways and Singareni Collieries. As per the agreement land will be provided by

Railways and expenditure towards construction will be shared by both Singareni Collieries and Railways. Works are in fast progress and nearing completion.

Ø Rs. 187 Crore allotted for Kotipalli–Narsapur new line project. The project was sanctioned in the year 2000-01 for a distance of 57 Kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 2,120 Crore. 25% of the project cost would be shared by the Govt of AP. The new line works in this section involves construction of important major bridges o­n Gowthami, Vynatheya and Vashista rivers, which are progressing at a brisk pace.

Ø Rs. 149 Crore allotted for Munirabad–Mahbubnagar new line project. The project was sanctioned in the year 1997-98 for a distance of 244 kms with an sanctioned cost of Rs. 1723 Crore. Out of 244 Kms, 66 kms falls under the jurisdiction of SCR (Telangana State) and the sanctioned cost for that portion is Rs 452 Crore. The remaining portion of 178 Kms belongs to SWR (Karnataka State). The section between Devarakadra – Makthal for a distance of 40 Kms has been completed and commissioned. The works between Krishna - Makthal for a distance of 26 Km are in fast progress.

Ø Rs. 83.6 Crore allotted for Akkannapet – Medak new line project. The project was sanctioned in the year 2012-13 for a distance of 17 Kms at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 118 crore. 50% of the project cost would be shared by the Govt of Telangana with land being given free of cost. The works are nearing completion.

Ø Rs. 36 Crore allotted for Kadapa – Bengaluru new line project (Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka). The project was sanctioned in the year 2008-09 for a distance of 255 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 2,706 Crore. Length in SCR under Andhra Pradesh Jurisdiction is 205 kms and the balance in SWR under Karnataka is 50 kms. 50% of the project cost is contributed by the Govt. of AP for the SCR portion. The project is taken up in 4 phases in SCR jurisdiction and 1 phase in SWR jurisdiction. The first stretch from Kadapa–Pendlimarri for a distance of 21 Km is already commissioned.

Ø Rs. 1200 Crore allotted for Vijayawada– Gudivada/ Machilipatnam-Bhimavaram/ Narsapur–Nidadavolu doubling and electrification. The doubling project was sanctioned in the year 2011-12 for a distance of 221 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 1504 Crore. It is a cost sharing project and 50% of the project cost will be shared by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. The Section between Uppaluru -Bhimavaram Town for a distance of 89 Kms & 35 Kms between Gudivada - Machilipatnam are completed and commissioned. The works in the remaining sections are in fast progress.

Ø Rs. 800 Crore allotted for Vijayawada – Gudur 3rd line project. The 3rd Line project was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 288 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 3549 Crore. Execution of works has been commenced in three phases between Gudur- Bitragunta, Karavadi - Bitragunta and Karavadi - Krishna Canal simultaneously.

Ø Rs. 475 Crore allotted for Kazipet – Balharshah 3rd line project. The 3rd Line project sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 201 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 2,063 Crore. 22 Kms between

Raghavapuram-Kolanur is completed. The sections between Kolanur - Potkapalli, Bisugir Sharif-Uppal and Wirur-Manikgarh totaling to a length of 44 kms are nearing completion. The works in the remaining sections are in progress.

Ø Rs. 426 Crore allotted for construction of By Pass lines at Vijayawada (19.5 Kms), Kazipet (10.65 Kms), Renigunta (9.6 Kms), Wadi (7.6 Kms), Gooty (3.8 Kms) and Motumarri. (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra). All the By Pass line Works are fast in progress.

Ø Rs. 364 Crore allotted for Guntur – Guntakal doubling project. The doubling project was sanctioned in the year 2016-17 for a distance of 401 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 3,631 Crore. The project is 50% cost sharing with Govt. of AP. The section between Nallapadu – Satalur for a distance of 31 Kms & Pendekallu – Dhone for a length of 27 kms is completed while the works in the remaining stretches are also progressing well.

Ø Rs. 333 Crore allotted for Kazipet – Vijayawada 3rd line project. The 3rd Line project was sanctioned in the year 2012-13 for a distance of 220 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 1,953 Crore. The section between Vijayawada - Kondapalli for a distance of 17.5 Kms is nearing completion. The works in Kondapalli- Errupalem are in fast progress and the works in the remaining sections are also progressing well.

Ø Rs. 225 Crore allotted for Gooty – Dharmavaram doubling project. The doubling project was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 91 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 714 Crore. The works in the sections between Kalluru- Taticherla for a distance of 20 Kms & section between Zangalapalle - Chigicherla for 11 Kms total 31 Kms completed and commissioned. The works in remaining sections are in fast progress.

Ø Rs. 100 Crore allotted for Secunderabad – Mahbubnagar doubling project. The doubling project was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 85 kms with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 774 Crore. The sections between Shadnagar - Gollapalli for a distance of 30 Kms are completed and the works in the remaining sections also progressing at fast pace.

Ø Rs. 5 Crore allotted for Akola-Dhone Doubling project. The project is sanctioned in 2019-20 for a distance of 612 Kms. The execution of doubling works excludes the previously sanctioned sections between Parbhani-Mudkhed & Manoharabad-Mahbubnagar.

Ø Rs. 0.10 Crore allotted for MMTS Phase II project which was sanctioned in the year 2012-13 with the sanctioned cost Rs. 817 Crore. The works o­n sections between Telapur – Ramachandrapuram for a distance of 5.75 Kms completed and commissioned. Quadrupling between Moula Ali – Ghatkesar for a distance of 12 Kms is completed. Works in Malkajgiri- Bolarum-Medchal & Falaknuma – Umdanagar sections are nearing completion. The project is targeted for completion at the earliest.

Ø Rs. 0.10 Crore allotted for Ghatkesar – Yadadri extension MMTS phase-II. Sanctioned in the year 2016-17 for a distance of 33 Kms with a revised estimate of Rs. 412 Crore. This project is a joint venture of Railways and Government of Telangana with cost sharing of 1/3rd and 2/3rd respectively.

Under Mission Electrification, in the current financial year 155 Route Km of electrification has been completed and allocations in the current budget is very much satisfactory. The allocation for the current year is 246% more than the allocation for 2020-21.

The details are as follows-

Ø Rs. 175 Crore allotted for Electrification of Manmad – Mudkhed – Dhone section for a distance of 783 Kms sanctioned in the year 2015-16 at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 865 Crs. Revised estimate prepared excluding Umdanagar - Mahbubnagar section and sanctioned for Rs. 902 Cr

Ø Rs. 85 Crore allotted for Electrification of Dharmavaram-Pakala section for distance of 228 Kms sanctioned in the year 2017-18 at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 253 Cr.

Ø Rs. 30 Crore allotted for Electrification of Nandyal –Yerraguntla section for distance of 123 Kms sanctioned in the year 2017-18 at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 135 Cr.

Ø Rs. 20 Crore allotted for Electrification of Lingampet Jagityal - Nizamabad for a distance of 95 Kms sanctioned in the year 2017-18 at a sanctioned cost of Rs 97 Cr.

Ø Rs. 90 Crore allotted for Electrification of Parli Vaijnath - Vikarabad section for a distance of 269 Kms sanctioned in the year 2017-18 at a sanctioned cost of Rs 312 Cr.

Ø Rs. 100 Crore allotted for Electrification of Pipalkutti - Mudhked and Parbhani- Parli Vaijnath section for a distance of 246 Kms sanctioned in the year 2017-18 at an sanctioned cost of Rs 325 Cr.

Ø Rs. 85 Crore allotted for Electrification of Purna- Akola section for a distance of 209 Kms sanctioned in the year 2017-18 at an sanctioned cost of Rs 277 Cr.

Ø Rs. 18 Crore allotted for Electrification of Gadwal – Raichur section for a distance of 57 Kms.

Ø Rs. 10 Crore allotted for Electrification of Tenali-Repalle section for a distance of 34 Kms sanctioned in the year 2018-19.

Allocations for Other Projects

Ø Rs. 50 Crore allotted for development of Satellite terminal at Cherlapalli Station.

Ø Rs. 2 Crore allotted for POH workshop at Kazipet

Ø Rs. 32.54 Crore allotted for Midlife Rehabilitation factory at Kurnool.

Ø Rs. 5 Crore allotted for Development of South Side Entry at Tirupati Railway Station.

Ø Rs. 5.65 Crore allotted for development of Tiruchanur Railway station.

Ø Rs. 50 Crore allotted for Construction of longer loops between Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada section.

Ø Rs. 50 Crore allotted for Construction of longer loops between Vijayawada-Gudur section

Ø Rs. 10 Crore allotted for provision of IB signals between Renigunta-Mamamduru-Balapalle section.

In terms of State-wise allocation,

Ø Total Budget allocation for Infrastructure projects & safety works, falling fully/ partly in State of Telangana in 2021-22 is Rs 2,420 crore, which is 118% more than the average of 2014-20 (Rs 1110 Cr/Yr.)

Ø Total Budget allocation for Infrastructure projects & safety works, falling fully/ partly in State of Andhra Pradesh, in 2021-22 is Rs 5,812 crore which is 105% more than the average of 2014-20 (Rs 2830 Cr/Yr.)
