Press Release:*DRM/SEALDAH CONDUCTED A JOINT INSPECTION AT GEDE STATION *

Kolkata, April 06, 2023:

Sri Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager/Sealdah along with Commissioner of Customs  conducted a joint inspection regarding the facilities available at the Custom checking point at Gede Railway station on 05.04.2023. Other Senior Divisional Officers accompanied them during the inspection.

It is well-known that, apart from handling 02 Indo-Bangladesh trains, Sealdah division is dealing with Export-Import freight traffic with Bangladesh. At present, the traffic entering into the Bangladesh is being examined by Customs Department at Ranaghat Railway Station which takes more time for despatch of those rakes towards Bangladesh through Gede.

The purpose of the joint inspection headed by Sri Deepak Nigam is to make proper planning for providing necessary facilities at the Custom examination point at Gede, which will definitely help Indian Railways for direct despatch of freight rakes towards Bangladesh and save the detention of rolling stock. It is also expected after making provision of such facilities at Gede Railway station, the Indian Railways will be able to import freight rakes from Bangladesh.

The said joint inspection concluded after discussion with all other stakeholders which will not only enhance the Export-Import freight business but also be helpful to the inter-dominion traffic travelling through roadways.
