LIMITED HEIGHT SUBWAY CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN AMBIKA KALNA AND JIRAT Kolkata, January 30, 2023: As a part of Eastern Railway’s continuous endeavour of increasing sectional speed by replacing level crossing in a mission mode, construction work for Limited Height Subway in lieu of Level Crossing Gate no. 7/3 between Ambika Kalna and Jirat stations of Bandel – Katwa section has been completed on 29.01.2023 (Sunday). The traffic and power block was taken for this work from 06:30 hrs to 19:30 hrs but due to well-coordinated and planned work of various departments, the work was completed at 17:00 hrs only, i.e., 2½ hours before scheduled time and the traffic and power block was subsequently cancelled to resume normal traffic. Construction of this Limited Height Subway will not only increase sectional speed by increasing average speed of mail/express, passenger trains as well as goods trains but also ensure safety for both rail and road traffic. Besides, construction of this LHS will provide more operational flexibilities and at the same time it will significantly bring down green-house gas emission in the locality by diminishing bunching of road traffic. In the shadow of this traffic block, various other capacity enhancement works like maintenance of points and crossing, overhauling of level crossing gates and improvement of level crossing road surface etc. over Bandel – Katwa section were successfully accomplished. 2
