PR No. 995 SCR Commissions Third line along with electrification between Errupalem - Cheruvumadhavaram

-Part of Vijayawada - Kazipet Tripling with electrification project

SCR has completed and commissioned third line between Errupalem - Cheruvumadhavaram railway stations for a length of 16.6 Kms along with electrification. This section is part of important third line project in the Grand Trunk route viz., Vijayawada - Kazipet Tripling & electrification project, covering Andhra Pradesh & Telangana states. The section between Vijayawada - Kazipet is a crucial rail link situated along the Grand Trunk Route Connecting Northern parts with Southern region of the country.

The section between Vijayawada - Kazipet on SCR falls in both Andhra Pradesh & Telangana states. This is one of the busiest routes and witnesses continuous Passenger and Freight traffic plying towards Eastern parts and Southern parts of the country from all directions. To decongest this vital and oversaturated section, Vijayawada - Kazipet Tripling & Electrification project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 1,952 Crores for a distance of 219 Kms (Andhra Pradesh – 35 Kms & Telangana – 184 Kms). The section between Vijayawada New West Cabin - Cheruvumadhavaram Cabin for a distance of 16.7 Kms along with electrification has been completed and commissioned in September, 2022.

Now, the third line has been commissioned between Errupalem – Cheruvumadhavaram for a distance of 16.6 Kms along with electrification. Out of this 16.6 Kms stretch, 5.5 Kms falls under Telangana State and the rest under Andhra Pradesh. Commissioning of third line of this stretch will ease the congestion for both freight and passenger trains.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has complimented the entire Team of Vijayawada Division and Construction organisation for successfully commissioning the tripling works between Cheruvumadhavaram - Errupalem along with electrification. He opined that completion of Kazipet – Vijayawada tripling project will ease the congestion in this oversaturated route and will facilitate handling of more number of trains effectively. He also stated that the progress of infrastructure works in the current financial year have been progressing at a fast pace.
