PR No. 794 - SCR Commissions Electrification of 143 Kms in Various sections of Nanded Division

In the current FY, SCR Commissions 574 RKms Electrification

- The performance of SCR with regard to electrification of railway lines during April – December 2022 is the highest among all Zones of Indian Railways during 2022-23

*******

Taking ahead the “Mission Electrification”, South Central Railway has carried out electrification works extensively in Nanded Division and has successfully completed electrification of 143 Rkms in various sections. Prominently, in the last 7 days, SCR has added 188 Rkms railway lines to its electrified network. In the Current financial year, a total of 574 RKms have been electrified till date since April 2022. This is the highest electrification done by any Zone across Indian Railways in the current financial year.

The 143 Kms electrification done across Nanded Division include – the section between Kosai & Himayatnagar for a distance of 82 Kms as part of Manmad – Mudkhed – Secunderabad; Dhone – Kurnool City – Mahabubnagar electrification project; the section between Rotegaon & Aurangabad for a distance of 61 Kms as part of Pimpalkutti – Mudkhed electrification project. Out of 143 Kms, around 135 Kms stretch fall under the jurisdiction of Maharashtra State, while the rest comes under Telangana State.

The electrification works have been proceeding at a fast pace in the current financial year, with the aim to complete electrification of entire SCR network by the next financial year. This has resulted in the Zone commissioning 574 Route kms of electrification from 1st April, 2022 to till date. The sections commissioned in the current financial year include: Washim – Hingoli Deccan for 46.3 Kms, Kalikiri – Tummanamgutta for 49.9 Kms, Khanapur – Latur Road for 98.7 Kms, Manoharabad – Kamareddi for 67.3 Kms, Aravalli – Nidadavolu for 32.8 kms, Bhavanapalem - Sattupalli for 14.3 Km, Gooty Bypass line for 3.2 Kms, Mahabubnagar – Gadwal for 72.7 Kms, New Piduguralla – Savalyapuram for 46 Kms and now Kosai – Himayatnagar for 82 Kms & Rotegaon – Aurangabad for 61 Kms.

The electrification of rail lines helps in providing seamless movement of trains by avoiding change in traction power, reduces enroute detention of both the coaching and freight trains and improves the average speed of the trains. It has the potential to introduce more trains in these sections due to the enhancement of sectional capacity. It is also an environment-friendly means of powering the trains, while saving fuel costs at the same time.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has specially complimented Officers and Staff of Electrical wing and Nanded Division for the excellent teamwork and dedication put-up in executing the electrification works. The General Manager has also stated that the electrification works are progressing in fast pace and some more sections will be brought under the purview of electrification by the end of this financial year.
