ER INTENSIFIES CLEANING & SANITISATION IN RAILWAY COACHES & STATION PREMISES Kolkata, January 20, 2021: With the resumption of majority number of long distance trains, special trains, suburban trains and short-distance passenger trains, Eastern Railway has intensified cleaning & sanitisation works in train coaches & station premises of both Howrah & Sealdah Divisions to combat COVID-19. All the EMU rakes are thoroughly sanitised from every stable points before offering them for passenger services. In all long distance trains and short-distance passenger trains, the seat, berth, rexin including all touch points are being thoroughly sanitised. Awareness campaign by on Board House Keeping Staff (OBHS) regarding dos & don’ts to prevent the spread of virus is also being undertaken. All the curtains have been removed and blankets withdrawn from services to prevent the spread of corona virus among the on board passengers. In the station premises of both Howrah & Sealdah Divisions, frequency of cleaning & sanitisation of platforms, urinals, toilets, concourse, waiting rooms, ticket booking areas, tracks, water vending points and passenger interface areas have been increased. Liquid soap dispensers are filled in regularly and can be available at appropriate places. Mechanised cleaning of platforms, tracks & adjacent areas are being done regularly with the help of high pressure jets & scrubber machines. Dry sweeping of platforms, station premises and rag picking of tracks have been done regularly. Side by side, sanitisation of platforms are also carried out to prevent the spread of Covid virus. While Eastern Railway is taking all efforts in both Howrah and Sealdah Divisions to combat COVID-19, passengers are requested to observe COVID appropriate behaviour and wear mask, keep hand sanitiser and maintain physical distancing and not to undertake train journey if they feel physically unwell. Though vaccination to prevent COVID-19 has been started for health care workers & frontline warriors, there should not be any slackness in observing COVID appropriate behaviour.
