SOUTH CENTRAL RAILWAY
PRESS RELEASE
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE, SECUNDERABAD - 500 071
No. 9/2023-2419-04-2023
Secunderabad
PR No. 9 ShriAnil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board inspects Kavach System

·CRB & CEO, Railway Board participates in the live demonstration of “Kavach”

·He also reviewed the Centre of Excellence for “Kavach” at IRISET

ShriAnil KumarLahoti, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board inspected the working of “KAVACH” today i.e., 9th April 2023. KAVACH is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system developed by Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). South Central Railways has been closely associated with its development since inception, facilitating its trials and also deploying KAVACH extensively over its rail network.

Today, the Chairman & CEO, Railway Board participated in the first-hand demonstration of KAVACH between Lingampalli and Chitgidda Stations. Shri.Anil KumarLahoti travelled in one of the locomotives, which are equipped with KAVACH systems and observed how the KAVACH system automatically regulates the speed of the train while passing through the loop lines, how the train whistling automatically happens while passing through the level crossing gates and how the system prevents the train from passing the signal at danger (SPAD). Importantly, he also observed how the KAVACH systems on the rolling stock helps in avoiding the train collisions – either rear collision or head-on collision – with the systems automatically applying brakes without the need for human intervention.

The Chairman & CEO, Railway Board also reviewed the working of Centre of Excellence for KAVACH commissioned at IRISET (Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications). He reviewed the working of all sub-systems of KAVACH and how it helps in making train operations safer. A detailed presentation was given for the Chairman covering all aspects of the working of KAVACH.

Kavach is one of the major stepstaken by Indian railways in taking forward Hon’ble Prime Minter of India’s initiative of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. South Central Railways has been leading in its deployment across its rail network by already commissioned KAVACH across 1,465RKms. The sections where it is deployed includes: 959RKmsalong theNagarsol - Nanded - Dharmabad - Nizamabad - Secunderabad - Kurnool City - Dhone–Guntakal section; 331 RKms along Parbhani - ParliVaijnath - Latur Road - Bidar–Vikarabad section and 175 RKms along Wadi - Vikarabad–Sanatnagar sections.

The Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board was accompanied by Shri. Arun Kumar Jain, General Manger, South Central Railways and his team (of Officials and staff from both the Zonal Headquarters and Division)during both the inspection and review of CoE at IRISET. Shri Sudhir Kumar, Director General, IRISET along with his team gave detailed presentation to the Chairman and CEO about CoE.
