In Tamil Nadu jurisdiction of Southern Railway, there are 95 Railway stations with ‘One Station One Product’ stalls

In Tamil Nadu jurisdiction of Southern Railway, there are 95 Railway stations with ‘One Station one Product’ stalls

Objective is to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision, provide a market for local/indigenous products

In Tamil Nadu, a total of 593 Artisans, Weavers, Craftsmen and members of marginalized sections are the beneficiaries under OSOP Scheme since inception

Southern Railway launched ‘One Station one Product’ (OSOP) scheme across various stations in its jurisdiction with the objectives to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the Government of India, provide a market for local/indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of society.

Under this scheme, OSOP outlets at railway stations are allotted for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous /local products. The pilot scheme was started on 25.03.2022. As on 15.05.2023,  there are 95 OSOP stalls in various Railway stations in the State of Tamil Nadu and 2 OSOP Stalls in the Union Territory ofPuducherry (Annexure-A). These OSOP outlets are designed through National Institute for uniformity.

Product Features:

The products showcased in ‘One Station one Product’ outlets are specific to that place and include artefacts made by indigenous tribes, handlooms by local weavers, handicrafts like world famous Kanchipuram silk sarees, tanjoredolls,Kovilpatti peanut burfis, spices tea, coffee and other processed/semi processed food items/products indigenously grown in the area. Product categories, under this scheme, broadly include the following:

  1. Handicrafts/ Artefacts
  2. Textiles and Handlooms
  3. Traditional Garments
  4. Local agricultural produce (including Millets)/ Processed/semi processed foods.

Beneficiaries:

In the state of Tamil Nadu, the OSOP scheme has provided business opportunities for 593 beneficiaries since inception.

The beneficiary desirous of running OSOP outlets should be a holder of Artisan/Weaver ID card issued by Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Development Commissioner Handloom, or by the requisite State/Central Government Authority or Individual artisans/weavers/craftsmen enrolled/registered with TRIFED/ NHDC/KVIC etc. or Self Help Groups registered with PMEGP or any eligible member of marginalized/ weaker sections of society.

Keeping in mind the objective of this scheme, a transparent mechanism is being followed for allotment of outlets. An Expression of Interest is invited from interested artisan, weavers and other eligible persons. Selection is made based on draw of lots by a committee formed at station level for this purpose. The eligible party (beneficiary) shall set up a stall at Railway station to sell local/indigenous products for 15 days, on payment of a nominal token fee remitted along with the application.

Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India dedicated and laid the foundation stone for rail projects worth over Rs. 1,900 Crores besides inaugurating various State Govt and Kochi Water Metro projects for the people of Kerala at a function held at Central Stadium, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram today, 25th April 2023.

Hon’ble PM dedicated to the Nation, the electrified 179 Km section between Palakkad-Palani-Dindigul commissioned at a cost of Rs.242 Crores.   One of the significant sections interlinking the states of Kerala and Tamil NaduPalakkad-Palani-Dindigul section has been brought under electrified traction to offer environment-friendly modes of transportation and attain zero carbon emissions.   Electrification will pave the way for introduction of MEMU services and will bring about seamless connectivity providing faster access to pilgrimage and tourism destinations.

Further, Hon’ble PM  laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of three major railway stations in Kerala – Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala Sivagiri and Kozhikode at a total cost of Rs.1140 Crore.  Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala Sivagiri and Kozhikode will be placed on the map of world-class stations sporting spectacular modern look blended with culture and heritage values of Kerala, aesthetically designed interiors with improved ambience, landscaped exterior and other airport-like facilities. All these three stations will sport futuristic world-class amenities  promising to meet the requirements of the next 40 years with seamless movement of passengers by separate Arrival and Departure corridors, Multi level vehicle parkings and multi-modal connectivity.

In addition, Hon’ble PM laid the foundation stone for comprehensive development of Thiruvananthapuram area at a cost of Rs.156 Crores.  This includes development of Trivandrum’s satellite terminal Kochuveli and the new additional terminal at Nemom.  once the project is complete, there will be hassle-free flow of rail traffic from all the three terminals greatly decongesting Thiruvananthapuram Central and thereby augmenting the terminal capacity and paving way for introduction of more train services.

Nemom Terminal will facilitate handling of train services both towards Ernakulam & beyond and also towards Nagercoil / Madurai.  It will provide additional stabling facility and reduce detention to trains at signals short of Thiruvananthapuram Central.  The two additional Platforms and one additional Stabling line  at Kochuveli will facilitate handling of additional trains from Kochuveli Terminal

Apart from the above projects, Hon’ble PM laid the foundation stone for increasing the sectional speed of Thiruvananthapuram – Shoranur (326.83 Km) section at a cost of Rs.381 Crores.  once the sectional speed of the section is increased, Kerala rail passengers can look forward to much faster trains and reduced travel time with faster connectivity to the major destinations in Kerala.

Earlier in the morning, Hon’ble Prime Minister flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express in the state of Kerala between Thiruvananthapuram - Kasaragod from Thiruvananthapuram Railway station.
