Shri P.K. Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway called upon the railway employees and officers to carry on the fight against untouchablity and gender discrimination which was the life long mission of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Shri P.K. Srivastava was addressing at the 124th birth anniversary celebrations of Bharat Rantna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, held at Rail Nilayam Auditorium, Secunderabad today (15.04.2015).
Further, Shri Srivastava said that Dr. Ambedkar is a giant among the Indian Scholars, a unique personality in Indian history. He relentlessly strived for human dignity and uplifting the down trodden. He said that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was heading the Constitution Drafting Committee and drafted the Constitution, most suitable for Indian socio-economic condition. He was a Barrister, the first Law Minister of Independent India, great socio-political reformer, Philosopher, great orator, author of many books and an educationalist.
Shri S.K. Agarwal, Addl. General Manager, SCR, while speaking on the occasion , said that Dr. Ambedkar’s concept of reservation to SC & ST communities paid much dividend in ameliorating the lots of the down-trodden.
Shri Ch. Shankar Rao, General Secretary, SCR Muzdoor Union, said that the provisions for reservations in the constitution will be nullified if privatisation of railways and other Govt. organisations is allowed in the name of Foreign Direct Investment, Public Private Partnership. Dr. Ambedkar has sacrificed his life for the upliftment of poor people and annihilation of castes, said Shri Prabhakar Andrews, President, SCR Employees Sang. Shri V.V. Naik, President, All India SC&ST Association, while speaking on the occasion, made an appeal to the upper class segment of the society not to hinder the benefits being given by various Governments towards upliftment of poor people.
Earlier, senior railway officials, Trade union leaders paid floral tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by garlanding his statue. Shri Ravinder Kumar, Chief Personnel Officer, SCR welcomed the gathering. Shri. M. Bala Muralidhar, Dy Chief Personnel Officer,(IR), SCR proposed vote of thanks.
