SCR Commissions Bypass Line at Motumari Railway Station

- New Bypass line constructed for a distance of 2.1 Km at a cost of Rs 39 Cr

- Commissioning of Bypass line at Motumari station avoids engine reversal and reduces enroute detentions for freight trains

- The modifications will ease movement of freight trains drastically

To ease both the Passenger and Freight traffic movements and to enhance train operations, South Central Railway has been undertaking several traffic facility works including yard modifications, constructions of longer loop lines, additional loop lines and bypass lines etc., at different locations across the Zone. one such important traffic facility work undertaken by the Zone in recent times has been the construction of a Bypass line at Motumari railway station. This has now been successfully commissioned by the Zone along with construction of cabin and Over Head Equipment (OHE) alignment of the rail line towards Vishnupuram.

Motumari station is located on the Grand Trunk route in the Dornakal – Vijayawada main line. A branch line starts from this station connecting Vishnupuram station on Bibinagar – Nadikudi Railway line via Jaggayapet Town and acts as an alternate and shortest rail route between Secunderabad and Vijayawada. This Motumari - Vishnupuram branch line is an important and vital rail link connecting many major & tiny cement plants, Dolomite mines and FCI godowns in the region. Presently, this branch line is being exclusively used for the movement of freight traffic.

Earlier all freight trains running between Secunderabad and this railway (branch) line had to undergo change of locomotive for facilitating train movements, due to the then yard layout. With the Motumari station situated on the busy section, this led to abnormal detention of the freight trains in the section. In order to overcome this problem, SCR has undertaken work for construction of Bypass line at this station for a distance of 2.1 Kms with an estimated cost of Rs 39 Crores.

Accordingly, the new bypass line has now been commissioned along with a new cabin building having Electronic Interlocking (EI) system with 25 routes and 3 additional crossovers. New EI System with 83 routes has been commissioned at Motumari station with new relay room & battery room. In addition, OHE alignment has been done to facilitate uninterrupted train movement with electric traction.

Benefits of commissioning the new Bypass line include:

· Provides seamless movement of train operations from and to Kazipet direction as well as branch line.

· No detention to freight trains in the section leading to enhancement in section capacity, by reducing incremental detention for other trains as well.

· Leads to improvement in average speed of the trains.

· Enhances through put and improves the utilisation of rolling stock.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager has complimented the Officers and Staff of Construction Organisation and Team SCR who were crucial in the completion of this bypass line along with necessary modifications. He also opined that the commissioning of bye pass line paves the way for smooth operation of train services in Vijayawada - Dornakal main line, duly avoiding enroute detention. It also helps in wagon turn round and assists in increasing the freight loading of the Zone, he added.

“Doodh Duronto Specials” transported Four Crore Liters of Milk - From Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh (Guntakal Division) to Nation’s Capital, New Delhi - Guntakal Division transported 5 MTs of freight till 11th November (in the current FY)

Doodh Duronto Special introduced during lock down period between Renigunta and H. Nizamuddin for transportation of milk in order to balance the milk supply in the National capital, New Delhi has crossed 4 crore liters mark by 12th November 2020.

Prior to the lockdown, the milk from Renigunta has been transported to New Delhi through milk tankers by attaching to the Mail& Express trains as per regular schedule. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all the Mail& Express trains were cancelled resulting in hampering the transportation of the milk to National capital. Considering its importance, the South Central Railway has come up with a unique initiative of running Doodh Duronto as a special milk train. More importantly, the train is run on par with best of the Mail express trains and the distance between Renigunta and H. Nizamuddin (2300 km) is being covered within a reasonable time of 34 hours.

Milk transported through this special train has been collected by a unit of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) from more than 3000 assembling points spread over 13,000 villages in and around the Chittoor district. With the enormous response received for the train, to meet the demand the Doodh Duronto special which was introduced on 26th March, 2020 to operate on every alternate day has been enhanced to run on daily basis from 15th July, 2020. Doodh Duronto specials, normally run with 06 Milk tankers, with each milk tanker having a capacity of 40,000 liters i.e., totaling to 2.40 lakh liters of milk in a train. So far, around 167 trips of Doodh Duronto special trains have been operated totaling to 1020 milk tankers duly transporting crore liters milk. It is relevant to mention that the milk loading has crossed the mark 4 crore liters from the earlier mark of 3 crore liters within 45 days’ span..

Further to this, even with pandemic times prevailing across the Nation due to Covid-19, the freight loading over Guntakal Division is back on to track and slowly picking up the normal pace. This has been possible with the introduction of various freight incentive schemes by Railway Ministry and also setting up of Business Development Units (BDU) to facilitate goods loading by Rail by the freight customers and traders. In the current financial year by the end of 11th November, 2020, the freight loading over the division has crossed the 5 Million Tonnes mark with the major share of Cement and Clinker loading of 1.8 MTs each. In addition, loading of new commodity gram dal to new destinations like Tadepalligudem, Vizianagaram and

Samalkota and loading of Fly ash to Tandur &Vishnupuram Cement plants, further loading of clinker to Madurai and Adra cement plants contributed in registering the Guntakal Diviion freight loading to 5 Million Tonnes.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manger, SCR has appreciated the consistent efforts of the staff and Officers of Guntakal Division for mobilization of milk to cater the Nation needs and for the initiatives being adopted for enhancing the Zone’s freight loading. He also expressed his happiness with regards to the Zone registering 5 MTs loading and crossing 4 (four) crore liters mark of milk.
