Improvement in loading of food grains, fertilizer and other agriculture related items on North Central Railway

Improvement in loading of food grains, fertilizer and other agriculture related items on North Central Railway

As on 08.12.2020, North Central Railway in the current financial year has loaded 10.54 million tonnes freight which is 1.9 lakhs tonnes more as compared to freight loaded in the same period of last financial year. Despite Covid-19 situation, this improvement could be achieved due to substantial increase of 40 % in food grains loading and 5% improvement in fertiliser loading over last year.Transportation of goods through railway is safer, faster, eco-friendly and cost-effective over other modes of transport and increased transport of food grains and other agriculture related items through railway is an important indicator of growth in agriculture and affiliated sectors and connects farmers to new and emerging markets.

North Central Railway has taken many steps for improving loading of food grains and other commodities which include improvement in 17 goods sheds over the three divisions; finalisation of station to station rates allowing rebate upto 30 % for additional and new traffic stream of food grains from Etah, Kherali, Datia, Dabra, Rayaru, Lalitpur, Mathura etc; capturing new traffic of tractor loading at ICD Dadri; capturing new traffic through loading of food grain etc. in mini and half rakes; capturing food grain export traffic to Bangladesh etc.

Some of the recent achievement in loading food grains and other agriculture related items on the Prayagraj Division are opening of Iradatganj for food grain loading after gap of approximately06 years, loading of 20 food grain rakes from in last 1.5 months from Naini, loading of tractors in 100 NMG wagons from ICD dadri , capturing new traffic and loading of food grains in121 wagons at Pankidham etc. on Agra division marketing efforts by BDUs resulted in first ever food grain loading in 02 mini rakes from Mathura. Similarly, Jhansi Division has loaded 1.5 Lakhs tonnes food grains in November-2020 which is best ever performance of the division in agricultureproduce transportation.
