WORLD SCHIZOPHRENIA DAY WAS OBSERVED AT B R SINGH HOSPITAL Kolkata, May 25, 2023 World Schizophrenia Day was observed at B. R. Singh Hospital/Eastern Railway/ Sealdah on 24.05.2023. Dr. Rudrendu Bhattacharya, Principal Chief Medical Director/ Eastern Railway and other doctors graced the occasion. Schizophrenia is a disease of brain affecting 1% of the world population and as a result 40% of the affected patients attempted suicide. Life expectancy gets reduced by 20 years due to comorbid physical illness (Diabetes and heart disease). It is one of the top 10 causes of disability. Symptoms of schizophrenia may include suspiciousness, aimless wandering, agitation & withdrawal from family and friends. Schizophrenia is treatable with medications. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rudrendu Bhattacharya, Principal Chief Medical Director/Eastern Railway emphasized on early warning signs of schizophrenia and the need for seeking prompt medical help. Dr. Jhunu Mukherjee, Additional Chief Health Director (ACHD)/Psychiatry discussed on symptoms, treatment and common myths about schizophrenia. She also highlighted on TeleMANAS 14416 - 24 ×7 mental health helpline number- the initiative of Honorable Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi ji's for making mental health care more accessible and affordable for everyone in India. Leaflets were distributed among audience on early warning signs of schizophrenia and the role of family members & caregivers. The program was appreciated by the audience with a cheer. The programme was organized by Dr. Kalpana Mandal, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent/Health & Family Welfare/B. R. Singh Hospital. 2

Kolkata, April 2, 2023 BR.Singh Hospital organized Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol provider training under IAP- NNF- FGM- NRP (Indian Academy of Pediatrics-National Neonatology Forum-First Golden Minute- Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol) project by the Department of Paediatrics, at hospital Auditorium. About 31 participants including gynecologist, anesthesist & nurses from B. R. Singh Hospital, Kanchrapara Railway Hospital, Sealdah divisional Health Units, Asansol & CLW Railway Hospital, R G Kar Medical College Hospital and other govgovernmet & private hospitals of West Bengal participated & trained in this programme. The aim of organizing the workshop was to eliminate perinatal asphyxia, reduce neonatal mortality, morbidity & provide quality health care to the neonates and improve the morbidity free survival. Dr. Bikramjit Das, Consultant Neonatologist, Neotia Hospital, Newtown, Dr. Parul Dutta, eminent personality in the field of Pediatric Nursing, Dr. Shilpi Siddhanta, Liluah Railway Hospital were present as instructors. Dr. Sayantan Saha, Divisional Medical Officer/Pediatrics, B. R. Singh Hospital, was the course coordinator & instructor of this course. Dr. Debashis Bandyopadhyay/ACHD/IC/ Pediatrics graced the occasion.
