EASTERN RAILWAY TO JOIN 100 MILLION TONNE CLUB IN 2024 – SAYS SHRI ARUN ARORA, GM/ER
Kolkata, December 13, 2022
Indian Railways has planned to develop 100 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) till 2025 out of which 22 GCTs have already been commissioned pan India. GCTs are planned to be developed either on Railway land or non-Railway land and the GCT operator for construction & operation of terminal are being selected through open tendering process.
Eastern Railway was the first Zonal Railway across India to commission the first Gati Sakti Cargo Terminal at Maithon within Asansol division to proliferate goods traffic transportation by improving speed & mobility, reducing logistic cost & enhancing capacity.
In a step forward towards that direction, Eastern Railway has now commissioned the 2nd Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Pakur yesterday wherefrom the first coal loaded freight rake, destined for PSPCL (Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd.), was flagged off from Pakur siding.
Eastern Railway is achieving new milestones in the field of goods transportation. In FY 2021-22, Eastern Railway had managed to achieve highest ever freight loading at 76.1 million tonne and Eastern Railway is expecting to load 85 million tonne during the ongoing financial year 2022-23. “By 2024, ER will be crossing 100 Million Tonne†– said Shri Arun Arora, GM/ER.
