Railway Protection Force, your friendly neighborhood security personnel, celebrate Raising Day


The Railway Protection Force (RPF), a dedicated force in railways, was established by the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957 (subsequently amended in 1985 and 2003). RPF protects and safeguard railway property, passenger area and passengers.

RPF celebrated its Raising Day o­n 20th Sept 2021 and is organising various activities in the coming o­ne week, such as Swachata Abhiyan, blood donation camp, Seminars, debates, discussions, Family meet, Sports/Games activities, Cultural programs etc throughout the zone

Central Railway RPF has taken the various measures in pursuit of carrying out above duties and to protect railway property, passenger and passenger area. During the last o­ne year (SEPT 20 to AUG 21) RPF/CR has detected 327 cases of theft of railway property and recovered stolen property worth Rs. 34.03 lakhs. Apart from this, 29,486 offenders have been booked under various sections of the Railways Act against those found involved in Hawking, gents travelling in ladies compartments, travelling in coaches reserved for disabled etc;. RPF also assisted to commercial department in conducting checks against ticketless travellers.

To control the passenger crime and to assist the Government Railway Police, RPF has apprehended 123 numbers of thieves who were handed over to GRP and also detected 64 cases of Robberies.

Besides the core duty, RPF has gone beyond the call of their duty and helped passengers in need and retrieved and returned lost luggage, valuable articles such as mobile phone, laptop jewelleries, cash etc of passengers in 379 occasions.

The alert RPF staffs have saved 43 lives of passengers during the period (SEPT 20 to AUG21). The project Mission Zero Death has been given top priority and reduction of death or injury to people due to trespass, falling down etc has been brought down considerably due to implementation of various action plans. Intensive Public awareness campaign has been carried out in this respect . In 59 cases, RPF has recovered contraband items such as Ganja, Cigarette, liquor, etc.  Under NDPS Act and handed over to authorities concerned.

RPF has also apprehended 07 kidnappers, 03 molesters, 03 murderers and 10 other wanted criminals of State Police. It has also introduced “Meri Saheli” scheme to ensure safety and security of women passenger in which lady passengers are being attended by RPF staff preferably Lady RPF staff so as to ensure that they are not facing any difficulties during train journey. Through 139 helpline - Rail Madad   RPF staff render assistance to the passengers or attend to their complaints and ensure real time help/redressal.

RPF/ER CELEBRATED RAISING DAY o­n 20TH SEPTEMBER 2021

 

Kolkata, September 21, 2021

 

RPF/ER celebrated Raising Day o­n 20th September 2021 to commemorate the conferring of the armed forces status o­n Railway Protection Force at par with the other para-military forces of the Union of India.

 

On this occasion, some of the achievements of RPF/ER/Sealdah are highlighted as under during the period from January – August 2021:-

 

1)RPF/Sealdah has registered 25 cases under Railway Property Unlawful Possession Act and out of these 25 cases, 19 cases have been worked out with the arrest of 50 culprits and recovery of stolen Railway property worth Rs. 1.32 lakhs. Rest of the cases are under enquiry and efforts are going o­n to nab the criminals involved in this case.

2)RPF/Sealdah Division has been conducting raids against undesirable activities within the Railway premises and offenders are being booked under appropriate sections of Railway Act. During the above period, RPF/Sealdah Division has registered 1358 cases and arrested 3568 offenders with recovery of Rs. 15.05 lakhs as fine.

3)RPF/Sealdah Division has rendering its pro-active role in security of passengers and passenger area and during such effort, total 77 minor children were rescued and were re-united with their parents.

4)Total 123 left behind luggage worth of Rs. 14.36 lakhs have been recovered and were handed over to its actual owners.

5)While performing passenger security duties, total 27 cases of passenger related crime have been detected with arrest of 32 persons and recovery of stolen property worth of Rs. 37.73 lakhs.

6)While dealing with e-ticket touting, RPF/Sealdah Division played an important role and due to effective surveillance, total 24 cases with arrest of 23 touts and recovery of tickets worth Rs. 1.45 lakhs have been registered.

 

RPF/ER over all the Divisions of Eastern Railway is continuously rendering its best for protection of Railway property and to remove obstructions from Railway operations and a secure, safe atmosphere within the Railway premises as well as in trains so that a feel good factor may be worked out among the passengers & rail users.
