Hon’ble Prime Minister of India visits Kochi in Kerala


Hon’ble PM dedicated to the Nation the Doubling of Kuruppanthara – Kottayam-Chingavanam section and flagged off of Special Train – Cost of the doubling project Rs.750 Crore

Hon’ble PM laid the foundation stone for the Redevelopment of three Railway stations in Kerala–Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town  and Kollam  Estimated total cost of station redevelopment projects – Rs.1059 Crore

Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India visited the state of Kerala o­n 1st September 2022 and dedicated and laid the foundation stone for important infrastructural projects at Cochin International Airport Ltd, Kochi in the presence of  Shri Arif Mohammed Khan, Hon’ble Governor of Kerala ,  Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri V.Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs and other elected representatives including State Ministers from Kerala, Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assembly.

Among the rail development projects for the State of Kerala, Hon’ble Prime Minister dedicated to the Nation the Doubling of 27 Km Kuruppanthara – Kottayam-Chingavanam section completed at a cost of Rs.750 Crore.   The Prime Minister also flagged off a special train service from Kottayam to Ernakulam.  Speaking at the function, Hon’ble PM stated that as the entire 634 Km stretch from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangaluru is fully doubled now, the section will offer seamless connectivity to the people of Kerala. He expressed his happiness of the section being a boon to lakhs of devotees bound for Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa Temple from various parts of the country.

Hon’ble PM dedicated to the Nation the newly electrified section between Kollam – Punalur completed at a cost of Rs. 76 Crore.  The Hon'ble  Prime Minister also flagged off a special train service from Kollam to Punalur.  Elucidating the benefits of the  section in his address, Hon’ble PM said that the picturesque Kollam – Punalur electrified section will offer a fillip to tourism besides offering fast and affordable means of transportation in the area. 

During the function Hon’ble PM also laid the foundation stone for the Redevelopment of three Railway stations in Kerala–Ernakulam Junction (Estimated cost:Rs.445 Crore), Ernakulam Town (Estimated cost:Rs.226 Crore) and Kollam (Estimated cost:Rs.388 Crore).  The Estimated total cost of these three station redevelopment projects is Rs.1059 Crores.  Hon’ble PM elaborated o­n the futuristic infra, pleasing ambience and world-class amenities these redeveloped stations will offer to the common man.

The main function of Hon’ble Prime Minister was beamed live at Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town,  Kottayam and Kollam railway stations which were connected to the main venue through Video Conferencing. Elected representatives at other locations  attended the function at these locations. Shri B.G.Mallya, General Manager, Southern Railway, Shri R.Mukund, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram and Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway attended the function at Kochi.

A new MEMU Express Train service (T.No.16309/16310) will be introduced between Ernakulam and Kayankulam and regular operations will commence from 2nd September 2022.   Two pairs of Passenger Train services (T.Nos.06661/06669 & 06666/06670) presently operated in Kollam – Punalur section will be converted into MEMU services and commence operations from 2nd September 2022.

Apart from Railway projects, Hon’ble Prime Minister inaugurated the Phase 1A of Kochi Metro between SN junction to Vadakkekotta.  Hon’ble PM also laid the foundation stone for the Phase-2 of Kochi Metro from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium metro station to Infopark, Kakkanad.

HOLDS A VIRTUAL PRESS MEET ABOUT BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS

Total budgetary outlay for Southern Railway for FY 2022-23 is Rs. 7,134.56 Crore

Rs.2374 Crore allotted for Safety works in Southern Railway is the highest ever in the last three years

Rs. 327.77 crores has been allotted for Passenger Amenities

Shri A.K.Agarwal, General Manager, ICF & Southern Railway along with Shri B.G.Mallya, Additional General Manager and Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway held a virtual Press Meet in connection with allocation for Southern Railway in Union Budget 2022-23.  General Manager, highlighting the salient features of Union Budget stated that renewed emphasis has been given for improvement of Safety standards in Railways.  He mentioned that the outlay of Rs.2374 Crore for Safety works is the highest ever compared to the last three years.  The grant of Rs. 1470 Crore for track improvement works has been increased 89.51% over the average of last three years, he added.    He also cited that for various infrastructural projects such as  Doubling and Gauge Conversion , the budget Grant has been substantially increased to 283% and 73% respectively, over last three years’ average.

A presentation was made o­n the highlights of budget allocations for Southern Railway under various Plan Heads including state-wise budgetary outlay for variousprojects in the state of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Southern Railway has received an outlay of Rs. 7,134.56 Crore for the financial year 2022-23, in addition a total of Rs.1064.34 is also received as Extra Budgetary Resource (EBR).Of the total outlay Rs.1445.85 crores has been earmarked for Doubling Projects, Rs.346.80 crores has been earmarked for Gauge Conversion Projects and Rs.59 Crores for New lines.  An amount of Rs. 327.77 crores has been allotted for Passenger Amenities for the year 2022-23 in Southern Railway.Rs.189.76 Crore has been sanctioned towards various Signal and Telecom works in Southern Railway with thrust o­n proliferating indigenously manufactured ‘Kavach’ Anti Collision devices across the network.

In Tamil Nadu, 25 New line/Gauge Conversion projects costing Rs.28,307 crores over 3,077 kms length falling fully/partly in the state are under different stages of planning/execution.  The budget grant for Railways in Tamil Nadu is Rs.3,865 Crore for the financial year 2022-23 which is 340% higher than the average outlay of 2009-2014.

Some of the important projects in Tamil Nadu featuring in Budget 2022-23 are:

·Rameswaram – Dhanushkodi (17.2 Km)  New line project has received an outlay of Rs.59 Crore

·The outlay for Madurai – Bodinayakkanur doubling project is Rs.125.00 Crore

·The Gauge conversion project betweenTiruchchirappalli-Nagore-Karaikal with extension of Velankanni-Tiruturaipundi including new material modification of Karaikal-Peralam (23 Km) new line is allotted Rs.121.80 Crore

·Funds to the tune of Rs 54.2 Crores are allotted for the 4th Line between Chennai Beach to Chennai Egmore.

·For FY 2022-23, funds to the tune of Rs.789.00 Crore have been allotted through the budget for the o­ngoing RVNL projects, including Rs.50 crores for construction of new Pamban Bridge.

An amount of Rs.303.42 crores has been allotted for various Railway Electrification works in the State of Tamil Nadu.

In Kerala, 8 projects costing Rs.9,489 Crore for 439 Km length falling fully/partly in Kerala are under different stages of planning/approval/execution.  The budget grant for Railways in Kerala is Rs.1,085 Crore for the financial year 2022-23 which is 192% higher than the average outlay of 2009-2014.

Some of the important projects in Kerala featuring in Budget 2022-23 are:

·Thiruvananthapuram-Kanniyakumari Doubling project (86.56 Km) has been allotted Rs.393.50 Crore

·Doubling of Kuruppanthara – Chingavanam (26.54 Km) has been allotted Rs.50.94 Crore


An amount of Rs.100.66 crores has been allotted for various Railway Electrification works in the State ofKerala.
