PRESS RELEASE
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE, SECUNDERABAD - 500 071
No.835/2022-2327-01-2023
Secunderabad
PR No. 835 - SCR Enhances Maximum Permissible Speed between Vijayawada – Duvvada to 130 Kmph

Ø With this, the maximum permissible speed of the entire rail network along the Golden Quadrilateral Golden Diagonal (GQ GD) in SCR stands enhanced to 130 kmph.

Ø A record 1,743.4 Route Kms of rail network is now fit to handle trains upto a maximum speed of 130 kmph on the Zone.

In yet another major infrastructural achievement towards enhancing the track speed over its network, South Central Railway has completed Upgradation of the track speed between Vijayawada – Duvvada to 130 kmph. The section stretching for a distance of 330.94 Route Kms has been upgraded to handle trains operating upto maximum speed of 130 kmph. In fact, this marks the completion of enhancing the maximum speed of tracks along the crucial Golden Quadrilateral and Golden Diagonal in the Zone to 130 kmph.

Recently, in the month of September, permission has been accorded to enhance the maximum permissible speed of 130 Kmph in the Golden Diagonal sections viz., Balharshah – Kazipet – Gudur for 744 Route Kms and Golden Quadrilateral sections viz., Wadi – Guntakal – Renigunta for 536 Route Kms. Already, 132 Route Kms of High Density Network between Secunderabad – Kazipet has been given fit to operate trains with 130 Kmph. Accordingly, the signaling and track upgradation works of the last section along the GQ GD route in SCR (i.e., Vijayawada – Duvvada) have been carried out and the section accorded permission to operate trains upto a maximum speed of 130 kmph.

The speed limit enhancement of the network has been achieved with systematic and planned approach of strengthening the track & other infrastructure by removing bottlenecks on a fast pace. This included - placing of heavier rails, laying of 260 meters long welded rail panels, improvement of curves and gradients, Signaling aspects, improving of Traction distribution equipment, increasing compatibility of Locomotive & coaches, etc.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR has complimented the team of Officers and staff who were instrumental in completing this critical task. He stated that the speed upgradation works carried out by the Zone will immensely help in raising the speed of our trains and also help in improving the operational efficiency. He also said that these types of capacity enhancement works will pave the way for introduction of trains which are capable to run at higher speeds.
