World Environment Day celebrated over North Central Railway

Today o­n 05.06.2021 the World Environment Day was celebrated over North Central Railway. Various events were organized signifying this years theme “Ecosystem Restoration with a special focus o­n creating a good relationship with nature”.. over the zone.

            A tree plantation program was organized at North Central Railway headquarter office in the august presence of Shri Ranjan Yadav, Additional General Manager, North Central Railway. Shri Yadav along with other Principal Heads of Departments of NCR planted saplings at NCR headquarter office premises.

            Today the General Manager’s message o­n World Environment Day was also widely distributed among employees which states “NORTH CENTRAL RAILWAY as an environment friendly Railway has taken many initiatives towards the betterment of environment.

On Energy management front many steps have been taken by N.C Railway. 11 MWp of solar plants have been provided over N C Railway.10.43 Million Units of renewable energy has been generated during 2020-21. 338 Stations, 265 office buildings, 02 work Shops & 26000 Staff quarters provided with LED luminaries. Rs 4.99 crores were saved in energy bill.

            o­n Water Management front N. C. Railway has carried out Water audit at 18 major and medium category stations.05 nos. Water Recycling Plant of 2.6 MLD installed capacity are working at stations - Prayagraj, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur & Gwalior. 27 locations of Rain Water Harvesting have been commissioned. 01 no. STP of 50000 LPD capacity has been commissioned at HQ office Subedarganj. This has resulted in saving of fresh water. ETP/STPs are being provided at Central Hospital and Running room at Prayagraj.

            North Central Railway has taken steps o­n Solid waste management and other fronts. At 24 major and medium category stations of NCR, the solid waste generated is being segregated before disposal. 30 major railway stations of N C Railway are being developed as Eco smart stations with ISO 14001 certification. DRM/AGC office Building & Divisional Hospital Agra have been certified Green with Gold rating. Total 11,42,555 nos. saplings have been planted during 2020-21. Bureau of Energy efficiency awarded (4 star rating) to GM/NCR Office building. 03 nos. Air Quality Index Monitor installed and commissioned at Prayagraj station, Prayagraj HQ campus, DRM office Agra Cantt.       

 North Central Railway is working with responsibility towards environmental issues and I am confident that N C Railway will be able to contribute towards the sustenance and enrichment of our ecosystem.”

Major boost to environment

Railways use Covid as an opportunity to accelerate the Speed of projects

Indian Railways has logged highest ever electrification of sections covering 6,015 Route Kilometer (RKM)in single year during 2020-21.

Despite COVID pandemic, It has surpassed the previous highest of 5,276 RKM achieved in 2018-19.

It is a proud moment for Indian Railways for achieving target of 6000 km plus electrification project completion during tough time 2020-21. Indian Railways is becoming environment friendly and energy secured.

The latest Broad Gauge network of Indian Railways is 63,949 Route kilometer (RKM) and with 740 km of Konkan Railway is 64,689 RKM, out of which 45,881 RKM i.e. 71 % have been electrified by 31.03.2021.

A lot of emphasis has been given to Railway Electrification in recent years with a view to reduce the Nation's dependence o­n imported petroleum-based energy and to enhance the country's energy security, with a vision of providing eco-friendly, faster and energy-efficient mode of transportation.

More than 5 times electrification was achieved during (2014-21) last seven years as compared to during 2007-14. Since 2014, a record 24,080 RKM (37% of present Broad Gauge routes) have been electrified against electrification of 4,337 RKM (7% of present Broad Gauge routes) during 2007-14.

Out of total 45,881 RKM electrified so far, 34 % has been electrified in last three years o­nly.

Indian Railways has also commissioned a record 56 TSSs ( Traction Sub Stations ) during 2020-21, as against previous best of 42, which is an improvement of 33% despite COVID pandemic.

A total of 201 Traction Sub Stations have been commissioned during last seven years as well.

Indian Railways has planned to fully electrify its tracks by December 2023.

Total Rail electrification would contribute to the goal of “net zero” emissions by 2030 by drawing its entire electrical load from renewable energy sources.
