SOUTH CENTRAL RAILWAY
PRESS RELEASE
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE, SECUNDERABAD - 500 071
No.847/2022-2331-01-2023
Secunderabad
PR No. 847 - SCR Commissions Electrification between Vikarabad – Parli Vaijnath

- The final stretch between Latur Road - Parli Vaijnath for 63.75 Kms is completed marking the completion of the project

-The project covers Telangana, Karnataka & Maharashtra States

Continuing the record electrification achieved during the first nine months of the current financial year, South Central Railway has achieved one more mile stone by completing Vikarabad – Parli Vaijnath electrification project. The final stretch of the project between Latur Road – Parli Vaijnath for a distance of 63.75 Route Kms has been commissioned, marking the completion of the entire project. With this, the entire section of 268 Rkms covering around 90 Kms of Telangana, 62 Kms of Karnataka and 116 Kms of Maharashtra states now stands electrified.

Vikarabad - Parli Vaijnath electrification project was sanctioned in the year 2018-19 at an estimated cost of Rs 244 Crores for a distance of 268 Rkms. The stretch between Vikarabad – Kohir Deccan (for a distance of 45 Kms) has been commissioned in March, 2021 and the stretch between Kohir Deccan – Khanapur (for a distance of 60.5 Kms) was completed in January, 2022. Later, 98.75 Rkms stretch between Khanapur - Latur Road was electrified in October, 2022. Now, the last stretch of the project i.e., between Latur Road – Parli Vaijnath for 63.75 Rkms Electrification has been completed. The trains in the entire section can now be operated with electric traction on end to end basis. This is one of the important sections handling trains between Southern part of India and towards Aurangabad, Shirdi and Pune among others.

To achieve “Mission Electrification”, the electrification of the railway lines is being done on war footing basis to complete 100% electrification of SCR network. Electrification of railway lines will pave the way for environment friendly means of transportation by replacing Diesel traction with electric traction. It also helps in seamless movement of freight and passenger traffic, besides reducing the enroute detentions. The fuel expenditure will be drastically reduced by reducing Diesel consumption.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR has complimented the officials of Electrical wing of both Headquarters and Secunderabad Division for completing the entire Vikarabad – Parli electrification project within stipulated time. The General Manager has expressed his satisfaction with the way the electrification works are progressing across the Zone, which have earned a great reputation at National level.
