Press Release:GENERAL MANAGER/EASTERN RAILWAY INSPECTED OVER RAMPURHAT – KHANA SECTION


Kolkata, April 14, 2023:

Shri Arun Arora, General Manager/Eastern Railway inspected over Rampurhat – Khana section of Howrah Division, today (14.4.2023). General Manager thoroughly inspected passenger amenities, facilities for the staff towards human resource development at different stations and also conducted window trailing inspection between Sainthia & Bolpur.  General Manager was accompanied by Principal Officers of Eastern Railway Headquarters , Divisional Railway Manager/Howrah and Branch Officers during the inspection.

While inspecting at Rampurhat station, General Manager introduced various facilities in presence of Principal Heads of various departments of Eastern Railway, Divisional Railway Manager/Howrah and Smt. Madhu Arora, President/ Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (ERWWO). At Rampurhat, Shri Arun Arora, General Manager/Eastern Railway & Smt. Madhu Arora, President, ERWWO  inaugurated the renovated Railway Institute, fitness club at Railway Institute. Later, General Manager inspected Running Room, New Colony, Health Unit and other facilities at Rampurhat. He also inaugurated a new RPF Barrack, dedicated Narrow Gauge Heritage  Loco Display and opened a heritage gallery at Crew Booking Lobby  at Rampurhat. At Rampurhat General Manager/ Eastern Railway also interacted with Train Drivers, especially with the Lady Train Drivers for boosting their morale.

Shri Arora, General Manager inaugurated a renovated Rest House at Bolpur and inspected various facilities and amenities at Bolpur. 

Smt. Madhu Arora, President, Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (ERWWO) inaugurated a ATM at Bolpur Railway station circulating area for convenience of the passengers. 

Later, Shri Arun Arora, General Manager reached Guskara station for inspection and opened  the new Gang Rest Room at Guskara.


Shri Arun Arora, General Manager/Eastern Railway advised all concerned to give utmost importance o­n safety aspects, asset renewal and upgrading passenger amenities to provide even better services for the passengers.

PR No. 919 SCR Revives Heritage Well at Zonal Railway Training Institute, Secunderabad


-It is step-well which is nearly 200 years old.

-The well  roughly yields 1 lakh liters of water per day

South Central Railway has rejuvenated the 200 year old Heritage Well at Zonal Railway Training Institute (ZRTI), Moula-Ali, Secunderabad, in tune with the emphasis laid by Ministry of Railways towards conservation of water and revival of water bodies. The well has been catering to the water requirements of the Zonal Railway Training Institute for over five decades. The project was undertaken with a cost of approximately Rs. 6 lakh and is expected to generate substantial savings of around Rs. 5 lakh per month.

            The heritage well which has a depth of about 50 ft. is yielding 1 lakh liters of water per day which is catering to the water supply needs ZRTI, Supervisors Training Centre (STC) and Territorial Camp (TA) office in the area. Rain Water harvesting pits have also been provided in the surrounding areas which will help to reduce rain water runoff and facilitate water conservation.

In addition, the well has been covered with Nylon mesh which helps to keep the water clean by preventing falling of leaves or other materials into the water. While pumping the water, manual chlorination is also being used to ensure supply of uncontaminated water. Maintenance and cleaning of the heritage well is being undertaken o­n regular basis. Beautification of the heritage well has been undertaken with fresh painting and decorative LED Lightings.

            Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway appreciated the initiative undertaken by Hyderabad Division and ZRTI for revival of the heritage step-well. He stated that South Central Railway is committed towards environmental conservation and is continuously implementing several green initiatives and eco-friendly plans of action, in this regard. He stated that the revived heritage well will adequately serve all the domestic water requirements of ZRTI and also the surrounding offices (STC and TA Camp).

Historic significance:-

The Heritage well is said to be 200 year old open well provided with steps. The well has got historic significance during the pre-independence era of the Nizam period. Sir Mir Turab Ali Khan, Salar Jung-I (1829-1883) who was considered to be o­ne of the greatest Prime Ministers of Hyderabad used the well for irrigation purposes of mango gardens. For the purpose of staying of irrigation staff, 10 rooms were constructed by Nizams, parallel to the wall of the north side of the well. In post Independence period, the well was inherited by SCR in its formation year 1966.
