HUGE POPULARITY OF HOWRAH – NEW JALPAIGURI VANDE BHARAT EXPRESS Kolkata, May 16, 2023: Travel enthusiasts visiting Darjeeling – Himalayan region and Dooars area prefer Howrah – New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express to reach their destinations enjoying a package full of comfort on-board. 22301 UP Howrah – New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express has performed 76 trips during the three months period from February, 2023 to April, 2023 with 100% booking of seats. Similarly, 22302 DN New Jalpaiguri – Howrah Vande Bharat Express has also experienced 100% booking during the period from 01.02.2023 to 30.04.2023. Thus, the Vande Bharat Express has generated a passenger revenue of ₹ 25,61,97,036/- for the three months period from February, 2023 to April, 2023. Shri Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer/Eastern Railway has said that, such huge response from the passengers for getting a chance to ride in Howrah – New Jalpaiguri – Howrah Vande Bharat Express is due to their preference for experiencing a high-speed journey with this indigenously built state-of-the-art ICF Coaches of Vande Bharat Express. Moreover, comfortable cushion, spacious accommodation and pallet table food on-board in this train also enrich the travel experience. 2

Kolkata, March 29, 2023 Hon’ble Prime Minister has ushered in new era of high speed rail communication by introducing Howrah – New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat express train on 30.12.2022. Since, the inception of Howrah – New Jalpaiguri – Howrah Vande Bharat express has become very popular among the people of West Bengal as this train facilitates tourism in Dooars and Darjeeling Himalayan region. Vande Bharat rakes are semi-high speed trains conceptualized, designed and developed indigenously, coaches are fitted with state-of-the-art safety features, world class amenity fittings and equipped with modern control and monitoring systems. In order to create a modern coach maintenance facility, Shri Arun Arora, General Manager, Eastern Railway opened a Vande Bharat coach maintenance depot at Jheel Siding, Howrah on 29.03.2023. Speaking on the occasion, General Manager, Eastern Railway said that the high speed Howrah - New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat express train is first of its kind in eastern region of the country and Eastern Railway is proud to maintain such rake at Howrah Division. He also mentioned that with the opening of specialised Vande Bharat maintenance depot at Howrah aims to provide world class journey experience to the esteemed passengers. In this maintenance depot at Howrah, Vande Bharat rakes will be maintained by an integrated and dedicated team of specialists from different units of Eastern Railway for a comprehensive maintenance. This Jheel Siding Coaching Depot has been augmented by RVNL (Rail Vikas Nigam Limited) in two phases and now able to maintain rakes of eighteen (18) coach length with all-weather 425 m long shed having 3 tier maintenance facility. In fact this Jheel siding now has the longest shed (425 m) of Eastern Railway having three-tier maintenance facility for Vande Bharat train. Heavy repair shed of 100m length EOT crane for lifting of coaches and washing line is also available at this coaching depot. Besides, Vande Bharat rake maintenance facility, Jheel Siding Coaching Depot has also 3 lines for washing cum maintenance of passenger trains. Shri Arun Arora, General Manager, Eastern Railway also opened an Automatic Coach Washing Plant at Howrah for EMU shed. This newly installed Automatic Coach Washing Plant (ACWP) at Howrah is eco-friendly and it recycles 70% of used water after treatment of waste water with E.T.P (Effluent Treatment Plant). This will help in reducing of water consumption in rake cleaning. The water consumption Per Rake is only 0.72 KL by using ACWP compared to the huge requirement of 6KL Water consumption per Rake in manual cleaning. Thus, this ACWP will save approx. 1900 KL water per year which will be helpful to maintain environment sustainability. Besides reduction in water consumption, the automatic coach washing plant at Howrah EMU shed will also increase throughput by cleaning 15 rakes per day in comparison to 2 rakes by manual cleaning. Moreover, ACWP is cost effective also and will save about Rs. 20 lakhs per year through reduced manpower requirement.
