- Reviewed the performance of Safety, freight Loading and Punctuality o­n the Zone

Shri Arun Kumar Jain (In-Charge), General Manager, South Central Railway conducted a review meeting o­n Safety, Freight loading and Punctuality of the Zone today i.e., 24th May, 2022 from Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. Principal Heads of Departments; Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) of all the six divisions viz., Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded Divisions participated through web conference.

The General Manager reviewed the status of safety drives being conducted over the zone for smooth running of trains and safety of workmen. He emphasized that during the course of the safety drives the officers, supervisors as well as the construction staff should be sensitized o­n all aspects of safety. He instructed the field officials to ensure worksite safety requirements without fail. He also instructed the officials to intensive the counselling sessions involving the staff who are related to train running operations. The General Manager reviewed the safety action plans prepared by the zone and reiterated strict adherence to the guidelines and safety measures. He also advised the staff to frequently conduct field inspections and ensure regular monitoring of track parameters so that timely action can be taken if required.

The Shri Arun Kumar Jain also held a detailed review o­n freight loading performance of the zone and congratulated the officials in the increase of freight loading compared to previous financial year during same period and also emphasized to continue to keep up the good work. The General Manager also advised the officials that there is lot of scope for further improvement in freight loading like Cement, Coal, Fertilizers, Food grains etc.,

The General Manager reviewed the progress of o­ngoing projects of the zone. The Business Developmental Units of all the six divisions gave a brief presentation o­n the new commodities added to the freight basket. He advised the officials to conduct regular meetings with freight customers, so that the problems, if any, can be resolved immediately. The General Manager appreciated the efforts and advised them to take up every opportunity to further boost the freight loading and attain the targets set.

PREPAREDNESS OF SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY FOR MONSOON SEASON

SWR has carried out all safety-related inspections and safety works in connection with the preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. This has been done to ensure that loss to Railway property, life and train services can be avoided. Special attention has been paid to Ghat sections in Hubballi (Castle Rock to Kulem) and Mysuru (Sakleshpur to Subrahmanya Road) which witness heavy to very heavy rainfall every monsoon.

General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore reviewed all the works related to monsoon preparedness today. The monsoon preparation works include cleaning of drainage, side drains, catch water drains, bridge vent ways and drainage arrangements for Road Under Bridges (RUB’s), removal of loose boulders, cutting/trimming of trees and installation of porter cabins.


·All Joints have been attended properly, drainage of water from the track area particularly in yards has been ensured to avoid any stagnation of water. All types of drains have been made with proper slopes and clear outlets so that rains may not affect the operation of trains.

 

·Inspections of Railway Affecting Works and Railway Affecting Tanks have been done overall SWR.


·All the vulnerable locations/Bridges have been inspected by the section engineers concerned and precautionary measures have been put in place. Chief Bridge Engineer of SWR has reviewed the monsoon preparedness in all the 3 Divisions.

 

·The identified vulnerable bridges and locations are provided with name boards at their approaches and arrangements are also made for posting of watchmen. The approaches of girder bridges have also been properly attended.


·The South Western Railway officials conducted a survey for trees and cutting/trimming of vulnerable trees existing in the vicinity of the track, has been undertaken.


·Monsoon reserves such as Boulders, Sand and Empty cement bags have been stocked at identified locations.


·Stock of boulders, Stone dust/Gravel/Musk have kept ready in wagons and stabled near flood prone locations to arrest landslips, breaches, flooding etc (Tinaighat  - 15 wagons and Kulem - 15 wagons over Hubballi division; Sakleshpur – 25 wagons, Subrahmanya Road – 20 wagons over Mysuru Division).


·Excavators have been stationed at Londa, Castle Rock, Caranzol, Dudhsagar, Sonalium, Kulem, Sakleshpur & Subrahmanya Road for quick restoration and clearing of track if there is landslip etc.


·Accident Relief Train & Accident Relief Medical Van are kept ready at all times with prescribed scale of engineering materials. Road vehicles, motor trolleys are kept in good condition for swift transport of relief materials and men to the site, when needed to ensure quick restoration of train services in the event of disruption.


·The weather bulletins issued from the India Meteorological Department are being monitored and weather warnings are disseminated in a timely manner to Stations to alert Station Masters, Trackmen, and Engineering Electrical & Signal/Telecom maintenance staff.

Engineering Officials have inspected in detail and taken safety measures to prevent damage to train services, railway property and life. Instructions from Disaster Management plan conveyed to staff at all levels. Close coordination will be maintained with Meteorological Department regarding Monsoon/Weather Warning/Forecasts.

Divisional Railway Managers of Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mysuru Divisions attended the meeting through virtual means.
