LAUDABLE PERFORMANCE BY ALIPURDUAR DIVISION

The Alipurduar Division of N. F. Railway has created a record by loading 90 goods trains from a single loading point over the last two months and earned about Rs. 37 crores revenue from these loadings. The division has also stepped up other revenue earning activities like drives against ticketless travel and on-run checks, thereby realising about Rs. 9 crore from about one lakh ticketless and irregular travellers during the last 11 months.

With the inclusion of Chautara station on 28thFebruary 2015, the division has brought all of its 68 stations under the Rail Shakti Scheme, wherein the earnings from station are directly deposited into a bank. The Rail Shakti Scheme is a national scheme of Indian Railways and all stations under the Indian Railways are being brought under this scheme in a phased manner.

The Alipurduar Division is also implementing a number of developmental projects including the proposed doubling of track between Gumanuhat – New Coochbehar & New Coochbehar – Samuktala Road at an estimated cost of Rs. 250 crore during the 2015-16 financial year. For convenience of passengers, a new computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) was opened at Salakati station from 28th Feberuary 2015.

Apart from these, a few coaches of the 15483 / 15484 Sikkim Mahananda Express, which is maintained in the Alipurduar Coaching Depot, have been retro-fitted with “Bio-Toilets”. These toilets are designed to enhance hygiene using a green technology to ensure that human excrement are not discharges from the toilets onto the track or station and only clean water flows through the outlets.
