EASTERN RAILWAY TO JOIN 100 MILLION TONNE CLUB IN 2024 – SAYS SHRI ARUN ARORA, GM/ER

Kolkata, December 13, 2022

Indian Railways has planned to develop 100 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) till 2025 out of which 22 GCTs have already been commissioned pan India. GCTs are planned to be developed either o­n Railway land or non-Railway land and the GCT operator for construction & operation of terminal are being selected through open tendering process.

Eastern Railway was the first Zonal Railway across India to commission the first Gati Sakti Cargo Terminal at Maithon within Asansol division to proliferate goods traffic transportation by improving speed & mobility, reducing logistic cost & enhancing capacity.

In a step forward towards that direction, Eastern Railway has now commissioned the 2nd Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Pakur yesterday wherefrom the first coal loaded freight rake, destined for PSPCL (Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd.), was flagged off from Pakur siding.

Eastern Railway is achieving new milestones in the field of goods transportation. In FY 2021-22, Eastern Railway had managed to achieve highest ever freight loading at 76.1 million tonne and Eastern Railway is expecting to load 85 million tonne during the o­ngoing financial year 2022-23. “By 2024, ER will be crossing 100 Million Tonne” – said Shri Arun Arora, GM/ER.

RPF/ER PROVIDES ALL ROUND SECURITY TO THE PASSENGERS

Railway Protection Force (RPF)/Eastern Railway plays a pro-active role to provide all-round security o­n 24x7 basis to the rail users ranging from rescuing teenage boys & girls, arresting touts, recovering narcotics, unaccounted cash and left-behind bags. They have also made commendable works to extend guidance & assistance to the rail users besides their task of ensuring security to the passengers.

1.On 18.11.2022, under “Operation Nanhe Farishte”, officials of RPF Post/Asansol (West) rescued o­ne teenage boy who was roaming aimlessly at Asansol Railway Station. o­n enquiry, it was found that he fled away from home due to family discord and was handed over to Child Line/Asansol under due documentation for further disposal.  o­n the same day, officials of RPF Post/Saktigarh rescued o­ne minor boy from Saktigarh Railway Station. He mistakenly came at Saktigarh Railway Station and was also handed over to Child Line/Barddhaman under due documentation for further disposal.  

2.On 18.11.2022, under “Operation Mahila Suraksha”, officials of RPF/ER arrested 31 persons who were travelling in compartment reserved for Ladies and they were prosecuted under the provision of Railway Act.

3.On 18.11.2022, under “Operation Satark”, officials of RPF Post/Howrah (North) arrested a male person who was carrying a bag in a suspicious manner at PF No. 09 of Howrah Railway Station and recovered Cash ₹ 3520000/- from his possession. The arrested person with recovered Cash was handed over to Income Tax Department/Kolkata under due documentation for further disposal.

4.On 18.11.2022 under “Operation Amanat”, acting o­n information through Rail Madad, officials of RPF Post/Sealdah (Main) retrieved a left behind bag containing a mobile and medicines total valued ₹ 50000/- from Train No. 03196 DN (Lalgola-Sealdah Local) at Sealdah Railway Station. The retrieved bag was handed over to its owner after proper verification & documentation. o­n 19.11.2022, under the same operation, acting o­n information of Security Control /Howrah through Rail Madad, officials of RPF Post Howrah South retrieved a left behind bag containing o­ne Laptop of HP company with charger, o­ne hard disk, o­ne Mobile Phone of Apple Company, some valuable documents total valued Rs. 130000/- from train No. 12246 UP (Howrah-Duranto Express) at Howrah Railway Station. The recovered items were handed over to the rightful owner after proper verification & documentation.
