In Kerala jurisdiction of Southern Railway, there are 20 Railway stations with ‘One Station one Product’ stalls Objective is to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision, provide a market for local/indigenous productsIn Kerala, a total of 202 Artisans, Weavers, Craftsmen and members of marginalized sections are the beneficiaries under OSOP Scheme since inception Southern Railway launched ‘One Station one Product’ (OSOP) scheme over Indian Railways with objectives to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the Government of India, provide a market for local/indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of society. Under the scheme, OSOP outlets at railway stations are allotted for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous /local products. The pilot scheme was started on 25.03.2022 As on 01.05.2023, there are 20 OSOP stalls in Kerala jurisdiction of Southern Railway (Annexure-A). These OSOP stalls are designed through the National Design Institute for uniformity. Product Features: The products showcased in ‘One Station one Product’ are specific to that place and include artefacts made by indigenous tribes, handlooms by local weavers, handicrafts like spices, tea, coffee and other processed/semi processed food items/products indigenously grown in the area. Product categories, under this scheme, include the following:
Beneficiaries: In the state of Kerala, the OSOP scheme provided business opportunities for 202 beneficiaries since inception. The beneficiary desirous of running OSOP outlets should be a holder of Artisan/Weaver ID card issued by Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Development Commissioner Handloom, or by the requisite State/Central Government Authority or Individual artisans/weavers/craftsmen enrolled/registered with TRIFED/ NHDC/KVIC etc. or Self Help Groups registered with PMEGP or any eligible member of marginalized/ weaker sections of society. Keeping in mind the objective of this scheme, a transparent mechanism is being followed for allotment of outlets. An Expression of Interest is invited from interested artisan, weavers and other eligible persons. Selection is made based on draw of lots by a committee formed at station level for this purpose. The eligible party (beneficiary) shall set up a stall at Railway station to sell local/indigenous products for 15 days, on payment of a nominal token fee remitted along with the application. B. Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways is on a two-day visit to Kerala The Minister reviews the master plans for redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram Central, Varkala Sivagiri and Kozhikode railway stations The Minister took stock of various rail doubling & new line and sectional speed increase projects in Kerala Hon’ble Railway Minister conducted inspection of Nemom & Kochuveli Terminals Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology is on a two-day visit to Kerala. The Minister held a review meeting with Railway officials and later inspected Nemom and Kochuveli terminals proposed to be upgraded as part of comprehensive development of Thiruvananthapuram area. Review Meeting The Minister conducted a review meeting with Shri R.N. Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway in the presence of Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Railway Board & Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway and Shri S.M. Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram participated in the meeting. The Minister urged the officials to fast track the station redevelopment projects of Ernakulam, Ernakulam Town and Kollam Junction and reviewed the proposed blueprint of Station redevelopment projects of Thiruvananthapuram Central, Varkala Sivagiri and Kozhikode stations. The Minister reviewed the status of various ongoing doubling and new line projects and sought the concerted efforts of all the officials for expeditious implementation. The Minister also scrutinized the proposed speed enhancement projects in the state of Kerala that will pave the way for operation of trains like Vande Bharat and other Mail/Express services at higher speeds. Inspection of Nemom & Kochuveli Terminals Followed by the review meeting, the Union Minister inspected Nemom terminal accompanied by Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Railway Board & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shri R.N. Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway, Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway and Shri S.M. Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram. The Minister exhorted the officials to expedite the project within the time-frame. Later, the Minister visited Kochuveli station and inspected ‘One Station one Product’ outlet and the catering unit at the station. The Minister met Shri Kadakampally Surendran, Hon’ble MLA of Kazhakuttam Constituency at the station and held discussions. Thereafter, the Minister interacted with the passengers at Kochuveli station and received their feedback. The Minister met mediapersons at Nemom and Kochuveli and briefed them about the proposed project for development of Nemom and Kochuveli and the work-in-progress at the terminals with regard to construction of pitlines, stabling lines, Platform extension works, augmentation of coaching facilities and measures to decongest Thiruvananthapuram Central. Earlier in the morning, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw participated in the flagging off ceremony of Thiruvananthapuram Central – Kasaragod Vande Bharat Express by Hon’ble Prime Minister. Later, the Minister joined other dignitaries at the Hon’ble PM event at Central Stadium, Palayam in Thiruvananthapuram where various rail, Kochi Water Metro and Kerala state govt. projects were unveiled.
