Countdown Event to IDY2022 at CSMT Heritage Building of Central Railway

CR officials practices Yoga o­n the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and as Countdown Event to IDY2022.

The United Nations General Assembly recognized 21st June as the International Day of Yoga at the initiative of Hon`ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2014 via a unanimous vote. The theme of this year (2022) of International Day of Yoga is “Yoga for Humanity”. As a precursor to IDY2022, countdown event at 75 heritage/ iconic sites of tourist importance across the country promoting India Branding (Monument in the Background) has been organised.  Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of o­neness with yourself, the world and the nature.

Central Railway organised the Countdown Event at the CSMT heritage building.  It coincides with 75th year of India’s Independence - Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.  Volunteers of Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti, Mumbai practiced the yoga session and officials of Central Railway followed at the heritage precinct. 

Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway, Smt. Menu Lahoti, President, Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (CRWWO), Shri Manoj Arora, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Central Circle, Principal Heads of Departments of Central Railway along with their spouses were present at the heritage precinct and participated in the yoga session. Dr. A.K. Sinha, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Central Railway and team coordinated the session.

Full body stretch-Tad Asana, hand exercise, neck exercise, back exercise - forward bending, side stretching, sahaj pranayama, kapalabhati, etc., yoga exercises were practiced.

Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager while addressing said that Yoga helps us fight stress and diseases. Yoga is to be practiced not just an exercise but as our lifestyle which will help us to be agile and healthy. Later, he interacted with the media and informed about the countdown event to international day of yoga o­n 21.6.2022.

The event was livestreamed o­n YouTube channel of Central Railway.

SOUTHERN RAILWAY OBSERVES COUNTDOWN TO INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 2022 AT THE HERITAGE BUILDING OF GENERAL MANAGER’S OFFICE


A Yoga program marking the Countdown to the International Yoga Day 2022 was held at the iconic Heritage Building Premises of the Southern Railway General Manager’s Office today. The Countdown to the International Yoga Day 2022  was also organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.


Along with Principal Heads of Departments and their officers and Staff, the program was attended by Shri B.G.Mallya, General Manager (I/C) Southern Railway, Smt V.G.Bhooma, Principal Executive Director, Human Resources, Railway Board, Shri Prafulla Verma, Chief Administrative Officer, Construction, Shri K.Harikrishnan, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Shri Ganesh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, and other Officers.


Railway Yoga Experts and Ayush Consultants guided the program of exercises along the lines of Common Yoga Protocol.  


Addressing the gathering, Shri B.G.Mallya, General Manager, Southern Railway said that Yoga has to become a way of life for all, to reap the benefits of keeping the body fit through Yoga. He said that Yoga played a crucial role in keeping Covid at Bay during the recent pandemic in Yoga practitioners who practiced the Yogic breathing exercises to keep their bodies healthy against Covid induced sickness.  


The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga 2022 is “Yoga for Humanity”.  As a precursor to IDY2022, a countdown event at 75 heritage/ iconic sites of tourist importance across the country promoting India Branding (Monument in the Background) has been organised. In Southern Railway, the General Manager’s Office Building, which is celebrating its Centenary this year, was chosen as the backdrop to the Countdown Program. Central Railway and Western Railway too joined with Southern Railway in conducting the program in a co-ordinated way.  The event was live streamed o­n YouTube channel of Southern Railway.


Various Concepts of Well Being through Yoga were popularised to the audience in the form of exercises and words of wisdom. Various Yoga postures were taught and exercised such as Full body stretches-Tad Asana, hand exercise, neck exercise, back exercise - forward bending, side stretching, pranayama, etc., as part of the common Yoga Protocol.
