MALDA DIVISION’S INITIATIVES FOR CLEAN & GREEN STATIONS

Kolkata, November 19, 2022

Plastic products have become an integral part in our daily life as a basic need. Plastic waste generation is a global scale problem and even our Railway premises are also affected by it. Plastic waste is non-biodegradable as it would remain unfazed for hundreds of years without any decay. The massive consumption of a wide range plastic products generated a huge amount of plastic waste.

To curb the pollution caused due to increase in plastic waste, Eastern Railway’s Malda Division has launched a campaign - Plastic free premises of Malda Division under the dynamic and inspiring leadership of Shri Vikas Chaube, Divisional Railway Manager/Malda. He has taken an initiative to make the Railway premises free from plastic waste.

As a part of this initiative, Plastic Bale Making Machine & Plastic Bottle Shredding Machine has been commissioned in Malda Coaching Depot. The collected garbage is segregated into bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste and fed into the bale making machine. The Shredding Machine compressed it into a cubicle so that bulk of waste which is hard to carry can be transported easily for recycling. The prepared bale & Chips will be sold out to Plastic handler at fixed price. This whole endeavour is the first step towards corporealization of ER’s dream to provide passengers with a CLEAN & GREEN station with the best amenities and services and contribute to the SWACHH BHARAT vision. This initiative will not only to keep the Railway premises clean and environment friendly but also generate non-fare revenue too.
