DEMONSTRATION BY CIVIL DEFENCE VOLUNTEERS OF SWR

South Western Railway Civil Defence Orgaisation, conducted a live demonstration and mock drill at Railway Supervisors Rest House, Tungabhadra, near Hubballi Railway station. This was conducted o­n the eve of completion of Civil Defence Intensive/Refresher Training Course from 09-08-2019 to 15-08-2019. The trained contingent of Civil Defence trained Railway staff have participated in Independence Day celebrations of SWR also.

In the current batch 60 number of Railway staff were imparted training of Civil defence, which is highest in a single batch so far in the history of South Western Railway.

The trained volunteers displayed various methods of providing first aid, rescuing injured persons from high rise buildings, extinguishing fires of different types.  Rescue methods for saving people in emergency situations in natural and manmade disasters were demonstrated.

Civil Defence Organization in Railways trains employees who volunteered, to provide immediate assistance for handling emergencies and calamities and imparts necessary skills for the same.  These volunteers are trained in rescue, protective, control and restorative measures. Volunteers so trained can minimize the adverse effects of calamities by saving men and materials. Their skills will come in handy to maintain the running of trains and restoring normalcy in catastrophes.

This demonstration was conducted under the leadership of Shri V. V. Marathe, Senior Civil Defence Inspector/HQ of SWR/Hubballi.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, South Western Railway & Chief Guest of the function congratulated all the members who had undergone training appreciated the enthusiasm displayed by the SWR Civil Defence Personnel.  He said that the spirit of selfless service of Civil Defence shall be emulated by all. He said that this training develops spirit of team working and also quick response learnt by members will help them in their duties. He urged that more railway employees shall undergo Civil Defence Training.

General Manager appreciated the commendable work by SWR Civil Defence Personal during the recent floods at Hole Alur, Belgaum and neighbouring areas etc.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, South Western Railway gave away awards to the Civil Defence Instructors Shri P. Panindranath, Shri Manjunath B. Shetty & Shri Sunny J. Dhavale and C. D. Volunteers Shri S. Prabakaran and Shri Damodar Naik for their dedicated work during this year.

Shri B. B. Singh, AGM/SWR, Shri Rajiv Saxena, SDGM, Shri Rajesh Mohan, DRM/UBL and other senior officers were present o­n the occasion.

 CELEBRATES 73rd INDEPENDENCE DAY

South Western Railway Headquarters celebrated 73rd Independence Day at Rail Soudha, Gadag Road, Hubballi today i.e. o­n 15.08.2019.  Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager of South Western Railway was the Chief Guest.  He hoisted the National flag and received General Salute from the Parade.

In his speech, Shri Ajay Kumar Singh said South Western Railway accords highest priority to safety, security and improved services to passengers along with infrastructure development. SWR has been progressing ahead in all spheres registering impressive growth. Hubballi and Mysuru Divisions rank in Top - 5 Divisions in Indian Railways o­n basis Key Performance Indicators.

Shri Singh said that during the first quarter of this financial year, South Western Railway has loaded 13.48 Million Tonnes of Freight which is 24 % more than that of corresponding period of the last year.  SWR has also carried more than 65 million passengers.  Four pairs of new trains have been introduced and 3331 Special trains run in the last 8 months.  The Originating Gross earnings during the first four months are Rs. 1993 Cr i.e. 9 % more than that of the corresponding period of the previous year.

Highlighting o­n the initiatives taken to improve line capacity, he said that 227 Km of Railway track was doubled last year which is o­ne of the highest outputs compared to the national average.  This year another 266 km of doubling o­n the main routes is planned for commissioning which will strengthen the network further. Important work of Hubballi bye-pass and auto signaling between Bengaluru to Bengaluru Cantonment will be commissioned shortly, he added. 

He said that SWR has eliminated 277 Level Crossing gates through construction of Road Under Bridges/Subway, Road Over Bridges, Manning of unmanned Level crossing gates/ provision of Gate Mitra thereby eliminating all unmanned Level Crossing Gates during 2018-19. SWR received award by Hon’ble Minister of State of Railways, Shri Suresh Angadi & Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar during the 64th Railway Week Celebrations at Ambala, in July 2019 for 100% elimination of Unmanned Level Crossings gates.

Speaking about the maintenance of cleanliness in coaches and stations, he said that all SWR based coaches have been fitted with Bio-toilets and better standards have been setup for coach cleaning.  With various initiatives of biweekly Shramdaan, Izzat Ghars, parks in colonies, SWR is striving for cleanliness in its premises. Utkrisht Rakes with modern upgraded amenities for passengers have been introduced in 8 rakes including the prestigious Rani Chennnama Express & Belgaum – Bengaluru Tatkal Special Express.  

He said that SWR has taken a big leap towards Digital India with Wi-Fi at 155 stations in the first phase. In the next phase, it is targeted to extend Wi-Fi service to another 125 stations which will enable every station of SWR (except the halt stations) to have a Wi-Fi hotspot.  SWR has implemented E-office in Headquarters and Bengaluru Division, he added. 

Appreciating the performance of sports persons of SWR, he said that Shri Majid Beg Mujavvar, Track Maintainer at Chitradurga of Mysuru Division, participated in the 5th Heroes Taekwondo International Championship at Bangkok, Thailand and bagged the Silver Medal in the category of 18 to 35 years Male (54 KG). His performance o­n the international arena has brought glory to India and Indian Railways.

He lauded yeomen service rendered by Scouts & Guides and Civil Defence Organization during the floods that affected North Karnataka.   He said that Scouts & Guides team have rendered service to the flood affected victims by going from village to village, door to door to distribute Relief materials to the affected families. The Civil Defence organization has also joined hands in extending relief to the needy during the floods at Hole Alur.

On the occasion, dog show was organized by RPF Dog Squad. Use of dog squad for tracing thieves, detecting explosives was demonstrated.

Shri Singh distributed cash awards to the meritorious wards of Railway Employees under Staff Benefit Fund and also awarded various branches with cash awards for organizing the Independence Day function.

Shri B.B Singh, Additional General Manager; Shri D.B Kasar, Chief Security Commissioner; V Rajeevan, Principal Chief Personnel Officer; Shri Rajesh Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi Division; Smt. Sujata Singh, President of South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization and other Officers & staff were also present.

On the occasion South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization distributed fruits, biscuits etc. to the patients of Railway Hospital, Hubballi.  A water purifier was also donated by the SWRWWO. 

Smt. Sujata Singh, President of SWRWWO, HQ inaugurates ‘Public Fridge’ at Hubballi Railway Station

Instead throwing of surplus food items to dust bin which results in wastage of food, it can be given to someone who is in need of food. With this intention, Hubballi Division has provided a refrigerator called as ‘Public Fridge’ in front of Hubballi Railway station.  It was inaugurated by Smt. Sujata Singh, President of SWRWWO, HQ in presence of Smt. Archana Mohan, President of SWRWWO, Hubballi Division and other members. Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR; Shri B.B. Singh, AGM/SWR, Shri Rajesh Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager and other officers were also present. The public may put their surplus food items in this fridge, so that people who are in need could utilize the food kept in it. The top half portion of the fridge is earmarked to keep ready to eat food items and bottom half portion for fruits, salads, vegetables. The Donor should keep o­nly surplus food items in the fridge and not stale food items.
