In Tamil Nadu jurisdiction of Southern Railway, there are 95 Railway stations with ‘One Station one Product’ stalls Objective is to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision, provide a market for local/indigenous productsIn Tamil Nadu, a total of 593 Artisans, Weavers, Craftsmen and members of marginalized sections are the beneficiaries under OSOP Scheme since inception Southern Railway launched ‘One Station one Product’ (OSOP) scheme across various stations in its jurisdiction with the objectives to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the Government of India, provide a market for local/indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of society. Under this scheme, OSOP outlets at railway stations are allotted for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous /local products. The pilot scheme was started on 25.03.2022. As on 15.05.2023, there are 95 OSOP stalls in various Railway stations in the State of Tamil Nadu and 2 OSOP Stalls in the Union Territory ofPuducherry (Annexure-A). These OSOP outlets are designed through National Institute for uniformity. Product Features: The products showcased in ‘One Station one Product’ outlets are specific to that place and include artefacts made by indigenous tribes, handlooms by local weavers, handicrafts like world famous Kanchipuram silk sarees, tanjoredolls,Kovilpatti peanut burfis, spices tea, coffee and other processed/semi processed food items/products indigenously grown in the area. Product categories, under this scheme, broadly include the following:
Beneficiaries: In the state of Tamil Nadu, the OSOP scheme has provided business opportunities for 593 beneficiaries since inception. The beneficiary desirous of running OSOP outlets should be a holder of Artisan/Weaver ID card issued by Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Development Commissioner Handloom, or by the requisite State/Central Government Authority or Individual artisans/weavers/craftsmen enrolled/registered with TRIFED/ NHDC/KVIC etc. or Self Help Groups registered with PMEGP or any eligible member of marginalized/ weaker sections of society. Keeping in mind the objective of this scheme, a transparent mechanism is being followed for allotment of outlets. An Expression of Interest is invited from interested artisan, weavers and other eligible persons. Selection is made based on draw of lots by a committee formed at station level for this purpose. The eligible party (beneficiary) shall set up a stall at Railway station to sell local/indigenous products for 15 days, on payment of a nominal token fee remitted along with the application. Hon’ble Prime Minister to visit Chennai on Saturday, 8th April 2023 Hon’ble PM to flag off Chennai – Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Station Hon’ble PM will inaugurate the newly gauge converted Tiruturaipundi – Agasthiyampalli section and flag off a DEMU service Hon’ble PM will also flag off a new tri-weekly service from Tambaram to Sengottai Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is visiting Chennai, the state capital of Tamil Nadu on 8th April 2023 (Saturday). In Chennai, Hon’ble PM will flag off Chennai – Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express from PuratchiThalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Station in the afternoon (at 16:00 hours). Connecting the ‘Manchester of the South’ Coimbatore with the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, the new Vande Bharat will reduce the travel time of passengers of both the destinations by nearly an hour. The new Vande Bharat will benefit Students, IT professionals, traders and businessmen, especially from various textile and industrial units in and around Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur. Further, Hon’ble PM will inaugurate the 37 Km new Broad gauge section between Tiruturaipundi and Agastiyampalli completed at a cost of Rs.294 Crores. The new branch line will benefit the movement of edible and industrial salt from various salt hubs in and around the Agasthiyampalli in Nagapattinamdistrict besides benefiting farmers and traders in the region. Hon’ble PM will also flag off a DEMU service between Tiruturaipundi and Agastiyampalli. The improved connectivity through DEMU services will benefit students, skilled and unskilled workforce employed at various industries and traders in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts. Furthermore, Hon’ble PM will flag off a new Tri-weekly Express service between Tambaram and Sengottai. The train service will provide direct connectivity to Chennai for remote stations in the delta districts of Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and for Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district. This will also be the first regular train service from Chennai to Tiruvarur-Karaikudi section. This service will benefit specially students, employees, business persons and regular travellers and will also help boost tourism in the South portion of Western Ghats. Apart from the above railway projects, Hon’ble PM will also unveil the New Integrated Terminal of Chennai Airport, inaugurate various road projects and inaugurate the 125th Anniversary celebrations of Ramakrishna Math in Chennai on 8th April 2023. Shri, R.N. Ravi, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri M.K. Stalin, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Dr L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and other dignitaries will participate in the above events to be held in Chennai.
