दकà¥à¤·à¤¿à¤£ पशà¥à¤šà¤¿à¤® रेलवे/ SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY पà¥à¤°à¥‡à¤¸ विजà¥à¤žà¤ªà¥à¤¤à¤¿/ Press Release No. 241 Dt: 05.10.2020 “VASUNDHARA NURSERY†DEVELOPED IN CARRIAGE AND REPAIR WORKSHOP, HUBBALLI SWR is transforming it’s landscape with several green initiatives. Developing gardens and parks is one such initiative which is given tremendous emphasis of late. “Swachh Pakhwara†held all over Indian Railways from 16thSep. to 30th Sep. culminated on 2nd Oct with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi ji, the father of the nation. To maintain Railways premises clean and green, a nursery has been developed in Hubballi workshop. At the Mechanical Stores Depot Gate in Carriage Repair Workshop, Hubballi ,an area of 350 sq.m has been developed as “Vasundhara Nursery “. This is named after Mother Earth signifying importance of plants in nourishing Mother Earth and also our Social responsibility to our planet .This nursery has been developed at an approximate cost of Rs. 4.5 Lakhs. The garden houses number of varieties of Plants, Herbs and shrubs. A Green House section has been made at the end with fabricated shelves to house the sensitive plants to shield them from excess cold or heat and unwanted pests. It provides the controlled environment for plants inside it, thus making it possible to grow certain type of plants throughout the year. The Alternanthera Bettzickiana commonly known as Calico-plant, the Jasmine a genus of shrubs and vines in Olive family, Aluminum plant with wide bushy leaves in silver patterns, the Aphelandra Squarrosa popularly known as Zebra plant, parlor Palm Plant, Weeping fig plant known as ficus tree, The Balsam Plant which flowers annually, the Dumb canes with microscopic needle shaped crystals, Variegated Alternanthera a house plant valued for its landscapes and hanging gardens, Areca palm for bright indoors, Shanka Pushpa, known for their medicinal values , Adusoge or Malabar nut known as an immune booster, Poinsettia spices of diverse spurge family are some of the plants being grown in this nursery. Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR today inaugurated the Vasundhara Nursery. Speaking on the occasion Shri Singh said that to maintain a healthy environment we should inculcate the habit of planting at homes, work places etc. He recalled that two big garbage dumps were there in Hubballi workshop two years back and since then lot of positive changes have taken place in workshop. The Evolution of Nursery from waste land to Vasundhara has been displayed with photographs of various activities carried out as a part of Swachh Pakhwara. Various competitions were held in disciplines such as Drawing/ Painting, Essay and Slogans .Prize winning entries in the competitions were displayed at the venue. E-Inauguration of book titled “Innovations and Good Work done during COVID-19†was also done by Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR to showcase the activities carried out by both the workshops of SWR namely Carriage Repair Workshop, Hubballi & Central Workshop, Mysuru during the pandemic. During the Lock down period, Workshops have taken lead in stitching face masks, preparing sanitizers for the frontline staff .Aiding the medical fraternity by providing protective gear as they battle the COVID-19 pandemic, Workshops have manufactured high quality PPE Coverall . To provide facilities to Quarantine persons of Covid -19, SWR in a mission mode, converted Sleeper Coaches to COVID care coaches by modifying the coaches as per prototype, mainly in Workshops. one of the Health care initiatives taken up by workshops were the testing cubicles and Intubation boxes which can be used by paramedical staff for collection of throat Swabs for test. Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR appreciated the work taken up at the Hubballi Work Shop under the guidance of Shri P Ravi Kumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Manager for transforming the work shop into a beautiful work space . Shri Singh commended the work of Shri Neeraj Jain, Chief Workshop Manager, Hubballi Work Shop and appreciated the Workshops which played a crucial role in helping the Railway in the COVID Pandemic. Shri P K Mishra, Additional General Manager, Shri Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubballi Division and Principal Heads of Departments were present on this occasion. WESTERN RAILWAY’S MEDICAL DEPARTMENT ORGANISED CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMMES Photo caption: The view of Cancer Awareness Campaigns conducted by Western Railway’s Medical Department at various locations such as Lower Parel Workshop,Churchgate Headquarter office and Mumbai Central Divisional Railway Manager’s Office from 4th – 6th of February, 2020. To commemorate World Cancer Day on 4th February, 2020, Western Railway’s Medical Department took the initiative to organise several cancer awareness campaigns and programmes to share knowledge and understanding of this deadly disease among patients, caregivers, staff and doctors, alike. These awareness campaigns were organized from 4th – 6th of February at various locations such as Mumbai Central Divisional Railway Manager’s Office, Lower Parel Workshop, Churchgate Headquarter office, etc. According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, sensitization programmes were conducted during the campaign with special emphasis on oral, breast and cervical cancers. on 04th February, 2020, cancer awareness programme was held at Goonj Hall in Divisional Railway Manager’s Office at Mumbai Central, while on 5th February, 2020 at Conference Hall, Lower Parel Workshop and on 6th February, 2020 at Godbole Hall Churchgate. Dr Meena Iyer – Assistant Chief Medical Superintendent (Health & Family Welfare) was the key person for organizing the educative lectures. She explained the audience about importance of early detection and better out come in many of the cancers. Dr. J. P. Rawat - Chief Medical Superintendent of Mumbai Central also spoke about the various health aspects and how to maintain a good health. He stated that the best original doctor for your body is yourself and hence do not ignore the signals given by your body and take action if signals are persisting (examination & screening for early recognition of disease). He informed that most of the diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease are due to our poor life style. More than 35 crores are being spent by Western Railway on the treatment of Cancer alone per year, which can be reduced if everyone of us become attentive and take out at least an hour out of 24 hours for the maintenance of health. For physical health one need to excercise, stretching, have nourishing food, adequate water, rest and sleep whereas for mental health one has to keep a watch on the content we eat alongwith reading, positive affirmation and practicing mindfulness. Similarly, for spiritual health, one should include Prayers, Inspiration, Meditation and spend quality time in nature whereas for emotional health, we have to indulge in activities such as dancing and singing, Playing, spending quality times with loved ones and not hurting anyone while communication. Various experts of the likes of Dr. Dolorosa Fernandez, Dr Heena Shaikh and Dr Vasundhara Kulkarni from the Deptt of preventive oncology, TATA Memorial Hospital, gave powerpoint presentation with detailed explanation about what is cancer, type of cancer, cause of cancer, how tobacco causes multiple problems including more oral cancers, how to prevent cancer. Interactive question-answer sessions were also conducted. It showed that Breast cancer cases in female and Oral cancer cases in male are at highest in India. A Practical video was also shown for self breast examination to detect cancer. ************
