ER OBSERVED INTERNATIONAL LEVEL CROSSING AWARENESS DAY

International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is a worldwide initiative to improve awareness of safety at level crossings. This campaign is spearheaded by the International Union of Railways every year. Eastern Railway has launched a massive awareness campaign today (9.6.2022) o­n the occasion of observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day.

The theme of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is Technologies that can help educate people, raise awareness and ultimately prevent accidents at crossings.

Eastern Railway organized mammoth counselling drive in this regard to save precious human lives. Counselling Teams of ER covered all the 1033 level crossings over its jurisdiction in a single day to educate people o­n basic safety norms, spanning across all the four divisions viz., Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol & Malda. The counselling activities include ‘nukkad nataks’, display of posters and safety slogans, rewarding people for coining excellent slogans o­n the spot etc. Awareness programs were also conducted by Railway staff, scouts and guides, Civil Defence volunteers and NGOs. Apart from this, ER is gradually eliminating the level crossings over its jurisdiction and is committed towards the safety of passengers as well as general public.

          ER’s Howrah Division observed the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) in proper spirit, starting with Rabindra Sangeet followed by a Walkathon alongwith officers & staff of the division, Civil Defence, Scouts & Guides. Students of Ramakrishna Mission & Dance Team from Rishra also participated in this event. Various programmes like sit & draw painting competition, distribution of leaflets, quiz competition was also organized as a part of this awareness programme at Rishra station. DRM/Howrah interacted with media persons regarding the importance of the event.

          In order to boost up consciousness among the public & road users and to ensure safety, Sealdah Division also organized various programmes & activities towards observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD). The programme was organized at manned level crossing gates involving officers & staff, volunteers from Civil Defence, Scout & Guides and RPF. Nukkad nataks were organized as a part of awareness campaign at various places and handbills were distributed at level crossings among road users. An SMS campaign was also organized bearing slogan *“Life is more precious than time. Stop, look out for trains and pass before crossing any level crossing gates”*. Other activities like display of awareness posters, playing short videos o­n video walls, announcement of awareness messages through PA system and broadcasting of bites by DRM/Sealdah through local news channels regarding ILCAD were also organized.

RPF/ER BUSTED A RACKET OF FAKE APPOINTMENT IN RAILWAY AT RISHRA, HOOGHLY

Acting o­n source information regarding movement of a gang operating for fake appointment in Railway at Rishra in Hooghly district, a special team comprising officers & staff of CIB, RPF/Howrah, RPF Posts Howrah South, Howrah Goods Yard and Seoraphuli kept surveillance over Rishra area. o­n 23.12.2020, the RPF team apprehended two persons alongwith five victims near Rishra Railway station with recovery of fake appointment letters and other fake documents in a Honda City Car. o­n interrogation, the arrested kingpin confessed that he fraudulently took ₹. 7 – 10 lakhs from each candidate for giving job in Railway. The arrested accused persons were handed over to GRP/Seoraphuli for further legal action.

It has been widely publicized that appointments in Railways are made based o­n merit list prepared o­n the basis of performance in the Railway Recruitment Examination. Railway has done elaborate campaign to communicate to all the candidates not to be trapped in the hands of fake job racketeers. For getting jobs in Railway, they should appear at the examination conducted by Railway Recruitment Board and Railway Recruitment Cell. For securing any job in Railway, no bribe is required to be paid and selection is made o­n the basis of results in the recruitment examination. Hence, all are requested to beware of the job racketeers.
