Press Release:DRM/SEALDAH INSPECTED OVER BARASAT- HANSNABAD & BARASAT-BANGAON-PETRAPOLE SECTIONS



Kolkata, March 25, 2023:

Shri Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager/Sealdah, along with other Senior Officers of Sealdah Division conducted inspection over Barasat-Hansnabad section, today (25.3.2023). In this section, DRM/ Sealdah inspected the goods shed at Barasat, progress of doubling work between Sondalia & Labutala and also inspected condition of passenger amenities and crew running room at Hansnabad station. 

Later, Shri Nigam, DRM/Sealdah inspected over Barasat-Bangaon-Petrapole section. Thorough inspection of the facilities were conducted at Bangaon Goods Yard and Petrapole station.

Shri Nigam, DRM/Sealdah also discussed with Hon’ble MP, Shri Shantanu Thakur and Hon’ble MLA , Shri Subrata Thakur  regarding further improvement in passenger amenities and other developmental issues.

GM/ER STRESSEDD o­n DETAILED ANALYSIS & CORRECTIVE ACTION REGARDING SUBSIDENCE, JERKS, WATER LOGGING ETC., o­nGOING SAFETY DRIVES & CLOSURE OF LC GATES AFTER COMPLETION OF RAILWAY OVER BRIDGES

Shri Arun Arora, General Manager, Eastern Railway held a meeting with Divisional Railway Managers, Principal Heads of Departments and Chief Works Managers through video conferencing in ER Headquarters, Fairlie Place today (5.10.2021). Shri Aneet Dulat, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway was present in the meeting. In the meeting, issues like detailed analysis, corrective action regarding subsidence, jerk, water logging etc., o­ngoing safety drives and closure of LC gates after completion of Railway over bridges were deliberated upon in detail.

 

1)At the outset, GM has stressed o­n detailed analysis & corrective actions thereon regarding subsidence, jerk o­n Railway track, water logging etc. noticed in recent past. Some unusual incidents happened recently were discussed thread bear. Some rail fracture were also examined and GM has advised to ensure corrective measure urgently in order to avoid recurrence of such incidents.

2)Ongoing safety drives and fire prevention in building were given highest priority.

3)After completion of Railway over bridge construction works, closing of LC gates must be expedited. Moreover, deadline for completion of construction work must be adhered to.

4)Special stress should be given o­n maintaining punctuality of mail/express trains.

5)GM laid special stress o­n expeditious completion of vaccination. Since there is no shortage of vaccines, ER should complete vaccination for employees & dependent family members by December 2021.

6)It has been held that since operation of ER suffers from extreme weather conditions. Railway must intensify foot patrolling, speed restrictions whenever required. Safety of train operations is of paramount importance and no casual approach whatsoever will be tolerated in this regard at any level. At the same time, periodic assessment should be done in order to explore unnecessary speed restrictions and possibility of removal thereof.

7)In order to put a break o­n equipment & asset failure, all concerned must be counselled suitably. Operating solution as well as technical solution should be explored in case of any unusual incidents. Furthermore, there should be regular interaction with Commissioner, Railway Safety.

8)At present, ER is loading 2750 wagons per day and up to 30.9.2021 ER has managed to achieve a loading of 6.57 metric tonnes more than the corresponding period of last financial year. GM has advised to be more aggressive for remaining six months of the o­ngoing financial year to achieve loading target of 80 million tonnes. In this direction, Petrapole should be developed as a goods shed so that ballast loading from Bangladesh may be prioritized.

9)Extra initiative should be rendered to augment more traffic from road. As a result of continuous endeavour, first rice rake has been loaded from Jasidih to Visakhapatnam. This new traffic will augment 3 – 4 rakes more loading per month.

10)GM congratulated all concerned for improvement in terminal efficiency of goods yard. He also expressed his satisfaction in scrap selling performance despite tremendous monsoon.

11)GM has emphasized to develop new goods shed o­n PPP model for which a fund of ₹100 crore has been created.

12)For commissioning of o­ngoing targeted and spill over bridges, approval of CRS must be obtained within due course so as to avoid further delay whatsoever. All DRMs must ensure that no stalemate should there in this regard.
