OPEN REDUCTION AND INTERNAL FIXATION (ORIF) SURGERY CONDUCTED BY DIVISIONAL RAILWAY HOSPITAL/MALDA

Divisional Railway Hospital, Malda continues their extraordinary endeavour in saving precious lives. A unique and extraordinary orthopedic surgery “Open Reduction And Internal Fixation (ORIF)” has been done by the Divisional Hospital recently. Dr. Sushovan Banerjee conducted the surgery, the first of its kind in the history of Divisional Railway Hospital, Malda.

A female patient, aged about 70 years, was admitted to Divisional Railway Hospital/Malda with fractured left distal femur (Thigh Bone). Immediately all preoperative optimization done and Open reduction and internal fixation by titaneum (MRI Compatible) locking plate surgery is done by Dr Sushovan Banerjee, Dr. Partha Bhattacharjee/ Anesthetist, Divisional Railway Hospital/Malda. The requisite implant was procured by Hospital Imprest from local supplier. Post surgery, an X-ray was done to make sure the bone is in the right place and miraculously the patient was able to walk within two days after the successful surgery.

Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is a critical type of surgery used to stabilize and heal a broken bone. Screws, plates, sutures or rods are used to hold the broken bone together. The tireless efforts and unflinching dedication of Malda Divisional Railway Hospital, Doctors saved a life of Railway beneficiary from extreme complicacy.
