IRCTC free meals during COVID-19 lockdown

I
n a much needed initiative, Indian Railways provides free food to underprivileged! The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which is the catering arm of the Indian Railways network, is supplying free lunch meals at railway stations. The deadly Coronavirus infection has brought the country to a standstill with the 21-day nationwide lockdown. The lockdown has drastically impacted livelihood patterns. However, the poor and homeless are the first ones to bear the brunt of this, as it has rendered them helpless, struggling for basic survival needs. In order to cater to the underprivileged, IRCTC will provide cooked food during the Lock down period from the locations where the base kitchens are situated.

At Katpadi on behalf of Indian Railways  IRCTC/KPD prepared Lemon Rice for thousand peoples and handed over to Sri. Mathivanan, Commissioner of Vellore Corporation in the presence of CCI, Staff Officer/IRCTC/KPD, SIs PF/ASIs PF and staff.
At Elavur station they supplied about 35 meals   The  officials distributed the food to homeless/needy peoples at Katpadi and Vellore area in the presence of RPF and the above Railway Officials by taking all precautionary measures such as wearing hand gloves, mask, etc,. by maintaining social distance among the distributers and receiving people.

At the Tiruchchirappalli Junction railway station free lunch meals were prepared and distributed to more than 1000 people in last two days. The food which included Lemon Rice, Tomato Rice and Tamarind rice were distributed to the underprivileged at various places in Tiruchchirappalli in consultation with State Govt officials. The food was prepared at the base kitchen, Tiruchchirappalli and was distributed by the RPF (Railway Protection Force)personnel.

During the food distribution, railways officials are observing social distancing. IRCTC is also gearing up to meet a higher demand of providing free food to facilitate the poor, during the period of lockdown.
